Today I started on my progress and started my FMP work. This work is mainly shown below on my Unit 8 FMP Padlet Wall, including the SWOT Analysis and the Unit 8 'RAG' Grading Sheet. These two documents I completed in the morning, and di these in a good period of time and made sure that I was setting myself up in the best way to make sure that I could continue my progress in the afternoon. This is when I completed the below document, which is a feedback questions session with some of the people from my old project groups. The activities helped me analyse my skills as all of the options available, (mainly on the 'RAG' Grading Sheet), where very relevant and I could really identify the skills that I would need to work on to make sure that I was completing a good project for my FMP. I would consider my main strengths in media to be writing and producing good work. I would also consider myself good at organising a team and making sure that everyone in the team was involved and being on task. I however would say that my main weakness is the fact that I tend to lose focus at times, which I will need to fix up to make sure that I am working to the best of my ability on my FMP. The feedback given to me today definitely helped to identify the skills I need to work on,, however it also showed me that I have a few different major skills that I had either forgotten about or really put aside. This was good to learn as it meant that I cold consistently improve in these skills (such as leadership and guidance), to make sure that all aspects of my work are remaining positive. I must admit that some of the feedback I did not expect, for example, one of the main things I needed to improve on (inn terms of someone's opinion), was the fact that I needed to tell people what to do more. I understand where this point is coming from, as at times when group members are not working to the best of their ability I maybe do not stop it, however I would consider myself good at leading and instructing a team. Finally, the main skill that I would really like to add and improve on for FMP is maintaining focus. I think that by doing this I will make sure to stay out of any trouble, and this will mean that my work does not falter because of this. Also, in terms of my work in the next session, if I make sure to stay on focus, my FMP work will not fall behind and I will therefore create a good project as a whole.

Today I made sure that I carried on with my progress on my FMP pre-production paperwork. The main piece of work that I aimed to complete today was the mind-map, and I made sure that this was eventually complete. I feel as though I could have potentially done this piece of paperwork to a better standard, however, I wasn't 100% sure on what the task actually involved at the start, therefore meaning that I started slowly and had to work extra hard to ensure that the work was done. Another thing that I did today is brainstorm some basic sort of plans for my FMP idea. I felt as though this as important as I hadn't thought of my own individual idea until today, and therefore I felt as though this was key. I have started to come up with some good ideas and making sure that I know how to relate this to the theme and to make it acceptable as a whole. These activities helped me analyse my skills as a whole as I think that I showed to myself that I was capable of catching up on work as I made a slow start to the work, and albeit with some help from my teacher, I made sure that I had got the document done by the end of the day. I also showed that I could generate and come up with some interesting and innovative ideas almost out of nothing. This was shown when I briefly documented some of my thoughts on the thoughts that were coming into my head whilst brainstorming ideas. In terms of boundaries set on the FMP brief, there are obviously some limitations. For example, in some ways you have to make sure that this is acceptable as a whole, meaning that any sexual, political or controversial topics would either not be allowed, or would have to be checked by a member of staff before being published or even considered. This could be a problem is something in the video is maybe not covered up or disguised as well as it should have been. An example of this is if you were to show someone being shot, you may be only able to see the outline or a shadow, and when the shot goes off the screen goes black. This would stop any controversy and would have a lot of effect to the video as a whole. I do however think that these implications in the brief are important, as it means that you cannot go completely off the rails and have to keep your video acceptable for the certain target audience. In terms of skills that I have sued that I could further apply to my work, I think that I have shown focus and control, as despite not knowing what I was doing at the start, I did not moan or cause a huge problem about it, I simply asked someone and got help. I think this will be very good to apply to any work in my next session, as it will make sure that I am not getting unfocused and that I will eventually complete the work set.

Today I ensured that I was continuing with my progress on my FMP. Some of the things that I completed today included a group discussion, as well as ensuring that my proposal document was complete and my pitch was done. Firstly, I had to make sure that my group and I had discussed basic things as we had just agreed on an idea and the fact that I was actually going to join their group. My proposal document was not too bad, despite there being a work limitation count I made sure that I got all of the information that I needed into the document layout to make sure that I was staying to the assignment brief and that I producing the best piece of work for my ability. My pitch was also successful as I made sure that I was confident, clear speaking and got all of my information across. These activities specifically helped to improve my academic and presentational skills as I knew that in the pitch I was being filmed consistently, meaning that I knew this was an important piece and one that I feel as though I did well to retain focus throughout on. I think that the proposal document was more to do with my development of academic skills, as I have to follow the brief to make sure that I was in the word count and so that my work was relevant and appropriate. I did not really face too many problems as I made sure that I had everything ready and made sure that I was good and confident throughout, in particular in the pitch. In terms of new techniques, I think that this was limited, as I already knew that I was a confident speaker and could quite easily pitch to a teacher of to a camera, so for me the pitch was relatively simple. However, I think that the proposal document definitely ensured that a technique I needed to use was compressing my work and making sure that it matched the assignment brief and the word count. This is for sure a skill that I will potentially use in my plans for the next work session and any after that, as it will ensure that I am always on target and completing my work. I will also do the same for my pitch, to always ensure that I am a confident and clear speaking student.

Today as part of my FMP progress I made sure that I was consistently trying to be on task and making sure that despite the practical workshop not being my preferred thing to do, that I co-operated and did not falter due to this. Therefore, I have learnt that even if the subject or lesson doesn't fit exactly what you would prefer to do, you still have to stick with it and make sure that your work does not falter due to it. These activities definitely helped to improve my knowledge of the practical equipment and skills as previously I wasn't exactly sure what a track and dolly was and what I could actually use it for. However, now I am completely knowledgeable as to what it is and I have made sure that I was completely focused today to ensure that I knew this information. This also helped with editing, as I made sure to sit with people who knew how to edit and make sure that I was therefore learning from them and helping them with any potential ideas or improvements. In terms of production, probably a main problem would be the fact that we were put in potential friendship groups, meaning that for parts of the time we were not as focused on our work as we should have been, also meaning that some of the final shots we struggled to fit in the time and therefore potentially had to rush them. However, we still produced a very good final video as a whole. In terms of new practical techniques, I learnt how to properly set up and use a few different parts of equipment, mainly the track and dolly. However, I also re-familiarised myself with some bits of equipment that I previously knew how to set up, however I had potentially forgotten. For example, both the Tascam and the LED Lights were difficult to remember, but with some of my own knowledge as well as the help of others I ensured that I successfully participated and helped. Finally, in terms of skills that I have learnt, I have mainly definitely learnt that focus is key, especially in friendship groups, because you have to make sure that even if some of your group members are not on focus that you consistently are, which in the long run will definitely help them as well as you. I will definitely take this into consideration in my next few lessons, as I will make sure to stay on focus to secure a good FMP project.

Today some of the main things that we did were not specifically based to our actual FMP progress. For example for big parts of the morning session we had a talk about potential live briefs that we could have done. However, in the afternoon session we were mainly given tasks on how to get our primary research. For example, we were put in groups (mainly consisting of people that are in the same FMP group), and asked to conduct some primary research by using vox pops, 1-1 sessions as well as focus groups. We were not too successful in these tasks as when doing them, we were asked to get people who were not a part of media. This would have meant dragging people from their classes to come and do the focus group with us. This was difficult as people will have upcoming deadlines to achieve, meaning that tutors are unwilling to let them leave their respective classroom. This definitely made us learn that planning is something that has to be achieved in advance to ensure that you get the results that you desire. The activities definitely helped to improve my research skills however, as we saw first hand what this was like and therefore how to potentially improve upon this for next time. In terms of how we solved the problems, we had to make sure that communication between us and any tutors who were involved was good, as we felt as though we couldn't do the focus groups with people who were not a part of Media. Therefore, this is the main reason that we solved any issues that we encountered in the specific activities. In terms of improving upon old skills, I think that doing vox pops definitely made sure that I re-familiarised myself with how to successfully do that, by ensuring that the amount of questions that I asked did not take up too much of the persons time, or make them bored with the questions themselves. This links back to my personal target for the day which was to successfully conduct primary research professionally. I think that I definitely achieved this target as I made sure that I was consistently on target and making sure that we conducted some good research as a team and ultimately as a whole. The diary log workshop definitely helped me, as despite my diary logs being consistently good, it made me realise how to make them even better and what things I could actually add to do that. This meant that I could made minor improvements to any diary logs that didn't have the requirements for a Distinction, as I feel as though if I work hard enough I can achieve this on my FMP. Finally, in terms of skills that I have learnt, it is to make sure that I am focused from the start and making sure that my work and what I hope to achieve is successfully planned out before I execute it. I will make sure to apply this trait in further lessons to ensure that I am on task and create a good overall project.

Today was another day where some of the activities and things that we did were not specifically based to our research or pre-production tasks for FMP. Therefore, today we mainly had different talks about what we actually need to be doing in pre-production and find out more about our main deadlines for these tasks. It was interesting, although I do feel as though this time could have potentially been invested elsewhere to make sure that my group and I definitely make the deadline of the 26th. I did however find it helpful as it ensured that we knew what we were doing and how quickly we had to complete it to a good standard. The minutes meeting talk helped as I think that previously we just believed that we could do an audio recording and that would be all, but now we know that for each one we also have to do a write-up of the meeting that will be delegated every lesson or meeting between group members. This has improved mine and my group members planning skills as it has ensured that we are fully aware of what we should be doing. In terms of problems that I faced, there was a period of the day where my group and I had to go out and take a photo to be used by the college, which took slightly longer than we had first expected, meaning that this was time that we could have worked on our pre-production, so this was maybe not a minor problem, but one that disrupted our flow of work temporarily. In terms of new pre-production techniques that I have learnt, on Padlet I have now been informed of the canvas setting, which is like a mind-map setting. This is very important for a group Padlet, as it means that people can input their work into the mind-map significantly easier and it therefore looks more professional. Overall the skills that I have mainly used today have been trying to ensure that no matter what I stay on focus and try and ensure that despite still having research documents to do, that I move onto the pre-production tasks because that's what was needed to do in class. I will continue to try and adapt this to my personality as I know that sometimes whatever the teacher is teaching is best for the class and for my progress.

Today I have completed a day long photo-shoot for the test shots in our group. This involved travelling to one of the specified locations and taking some certain props with us, for instance a football. I think that this was definitely a good use of our time, as we got some shots that we are potentially going to use for the magazine, however, we may also need another potential day to take some more photos, as some of the shots will maybe need to be re-done. I think that shots including me could also do with some work, as I feel as though these specific photos could help the magazine. In terms of problems, i'd say that at times the inconsistency of the weather effected certain shots, as the sun would quickly appear whilst taking photos, meaning that the lighting was different and it was also significantly harder to pose correctly. We couldn't really solve issues to do with the weather, as this was just something that we had to deal with, however, we made sure that the lighting was appropriate and that the photos taken were of a good standard so that they were in contention for selection into the magazine. In terms of new techniques or skills that i learnt during the day, i just ensured that i was consistently of focus to ensure that all work and photos were professional and to a good standard. I will further apply this into my further FMP lessons to make sure that all other pieces of work are done to a successful standard.

Today I completed my recce sheets for the Harlow College Photo Studio as well as Harlow Town Park & Parndon Wood Nature Reserve. I had to complete these as part of my job role for the FMP project, and i made sure that these were done to a good standard. Combined across the three documents i probably took around 2 hours to complete the three documents. I think i learned a lot from completing these documents, as i made sure that i was covering all possible aspects to ensure that my group members and I knew everything we could do about the specific location. In terms of problems, i started off not being so sure as to what i actually had to do, and whether i had to say yes or no to the options. Therefore i didnt have a very good start to the completion of these documents, however, i made sure that i got back on task and completed the documents in a good time so that i could do other activities and documents. In terms of pre-production techniques that i learned, i learned that despite having a bad start i should just continue with the work and ask for help instead of just sitting there and therefore not completing the work. I had also set myself a personal target to stay completely on task, meaning that i owed it to myself to continue with the work. Overall, the main skill that i learned from these documents was the element of focus and staying on task, as i had to make sure that i matched my own ambitions by completing the documents on the same day that i started them.

Today i started on my articles that i was required to write for the production of the magazine. I knew that i was required to write two articles, which were sport and mental health. Today i didnt get as much done as i would have hoped, as i knew that i had to establish what i could actually write about for each individual articles. I knew that i wanted to start on my sport article, as i knew that this would come more naturally to me, so in the morning i tried to pinpoint all important things in sport in the year of 2016. There were many options, and i knew this would be my first draft and therefore probably my worst, so I just tried to cover all areas of sport all over the world. In terms of feedback that i recieved, some people enjoyed it as it was covering so many different sports, however, i was always more biased towards football, and ended up writing a lot about football and maybe just one paragraph for other sports. This was the main problem for me, as i just didnt connect with a lot of the other sports like i did with football. Overall, i learned that i have to make sure to stick to the things that you know best and make sure that i was consistently on task to make sure that i had a decently done first draft.

Today i started on my mental health article first draft. This was always going to be difficult for me as i was quite unsure for what i could actually write about within obvious limitations. I feel like my first draft was always going to be quite difficult to do, although i made sure that i focused more on facts and stats to make sure that the article was informative, but then i also added in some individual opinions. In terms of problems, i would say the main problem was that i didnt start off my work very quickly, meaning that i couldnt start the actual writing of the draft until later on in the day. This was frustrating for me, as my personal and individual target for the day was to make sure that i was seperate from the majority of the distractions in the class to make sure that i got off to a good start on this specific article. Although, i believe that the main issue for me was the fact that i have never personally been effected by mental health, and therefore i did not relate to it very much and found it difficult to write about. In terms of my other article, which was for sport, i felt as though my feedback was good but could be a lot better, and i received a very good piece of feedback about just making my article into a football based review. I felt as though this was signifcantly better as i know a lot about this sport in particular in comparison to all of the others, meaning i could produce a better article as a whole. Therefore, i had a spare 30 minutes, so i chopped out all information about other sports, and started to implement more info about football in 2016.

Today i started to round up my sports article, and started to finalise it as a whole. I had made sure that i had effectively used my study days to edit the sports article, and make sure that it was solely football based and edited successfully. I then submitted it at the end of the day to the group padlet to make sure that i could get feedback on what i wanted to be my final draft. In terms of my mental health article, i made good progress by organising a meeting for Monday 12th June with the Safeguarding Team manager Marian Hollingsworth. This was quite effective for me as my article was rather dry and generic, meaning that it was not a real stand out article, but i know that an interview will really help it to add a personal view, and to link it to the college. It will also make it different to other interviews, as not many would have interviews as such. The main problem or issue for me today was the fact that i didnt actually have too much work to complete, as i was waiting on feedback for my sport article, and all i had to do to complete my mental health article was to complete the interview and then add that to the end. Therefore, i think i was consistently on task today and making sure that my work was completed to a good standard as a whole. Finally, in terms of skills that i have learnt, i have made sure that i have consistently stayed on focus, which is a skill that in the past i have maybe failed to grasp, and i will need to keep this up for the remaining lessons in my FMP.

Today was a successful day for my FMP progress, as i made sure that my sport article was completely finished, and i edited the feedback that i received to ensure that the article was of the best standard for the magazine. I felt good completing this article in particular, as it had come a long way from where i first started with it, and i made sure that it was all in detail, and was not only covering positive things, but it also covered the other end of the spectrum. One thing i would have liked to have added would have been a personal opinion, as i feel as though this would have shown a more professional showing, and would have really portrayed my love and passion for football as a whole. In the afternoon i had the interview with Marian Hollingsworth, the manager of the Safeguarding Team at Harlow College. This interview really helped to spice up the article and give it a personal angle that i hadnt portrayed in my piece on sport. After finishing the article, i had to go back up to the open plan and translate from the recording onto the article what was discussed as a whole. I didnt face too many problems today, as i felt as though i was very on task, and making sure that all final pieces of work for me to complete were done to a good standard. However, at some points in the day i did find myself not doing any work, as i felt as though everything that i had been set had been completed, and that it had all been done to a good standard. I did also develop my production skills, and working in a team, as i had to consistently communicate with my team members to make sure that everything was flowing nicely and coming along so that we would meet our deadlines. Finally, i will carry these focus and teamwork skills into my next lesson, as well as my final FMP lessons to ensure that my team and I meet the deadline and make a good final project to ensure that we maximise chances of a good grade.

Today i completed the final touches to my mental health article. Yesterday i had added the interview and the basic points of it into the article itself, but i knew that I needed to cut and change certain parts of it so that it made sense and flowed nicely. I made sure that i did this, as i wanted it to make sense properly, and add something different to the article than just lots of pieces of information. The main problem today was the noise levels of the class, as at times this significantly distracted me from staying on task and completing my work. This was not a personal issue, as i felt that throughout the day i was on task and listening to what tutors had to say instead of carrying on with work, however, at various points i found it difficult to fully engage in my work due to the levels of noise. In terms of production techniques that i had learnt or developed, i felt as though my focus and concentration levels had really improved over the process, and I feel as though my knowledge of the camera and other pieces of equipment have also grown majorly. This is similar to some of my personal targets over the FMP period, which were mainly to do with holding my concentration to make sure i get the best grade possible, as well as making sure that my knowledge of equipment grew by a good amount. In terms of skills that i have learnt today, i feel as though i have done well to keep focus, and i will make sure that for the remainder of FMP i will be keeping up these skills.

Today was the day of the screening for the final draft of the magazine. This was very effective for us as we received very good feedback from everyone involved in the screening, meaning that we believe that we have completed this to a good standard. Overall, we had to pitch a presentation that we had created about the presentation, in which we also included a QR code so that people could follow it on their phone or iPad. Overall, I have learnt a lot from this screening, as I feel as though my presentation skills have developed, which is helping my confidence as a whole. I am already a confident speaker, but presenting like this enables me to grow in experience and in my knowledge of the subject. The screening as a whole has also helped with the feedback, as we received a lot of solid opinions, as well as receiving some good constructive criticism, which will help us in the long run with future projects. In terms of any problems faced, we did not receive many bad comments or anything like that, as our product was very good and therefore received the deserved positive feedback. I think that this was not a problem, because no project can always be 100% perfect, and so a bit of constructive criticism is usually a positive thing. I think that overall, I have learnt that my confidence and professionalism have grown over this project as a whole, and this screening has made sure that I am more professional and always making sure that I am taking things completely serious. I will make sure that I take these professional skills into future projects, to ensure that I keep focus to maximise my chances of a good grade.

Today was the final deadline for all things to do with the Final Major Project. I think that despite having work and other family commitments over the weekend, I made sure that I made a good start to my evaluation, so that I could come into college and just finish some things off and add screenshots. That is how the day has planned out, and I am very happy that I have planned the day out so well. Therefore, I think I have done this very successfully as I have ensured that I have managed my time well. In terms of problems, I have not really encountered any issues today, apart from maybe a lot of noise coming from the class, personally I have not come across any issues, meaning that I could get along with my evaluation smoothly. Today has flowed nicely as a whole, as I have made sure that I have implemented my knowledge into the time management to make sure that I comfortably meet the deadline of 4pm. Overall, today I have learnt and developed my skills of time management, which will be very effective for future projects, as this will make sure that I consistently meet and exceed my deadlines. I will continue to apply this into future lessons and projects.
