What is the pay rate and when are adjunct instructors paid?

The current rate of pay for one three credit hour course in our department is $1971/semester at the Master's Degree level and $2071/semester at the Doctoral Degree level. Pay is divided into equal amounts paid at the end of each month and is paid one month in arrears. (For example, Fall semester payments are Sept, October, Nov, Dec, and Jan.)

Can adjunct instructors teach online classes?

In order to teach online classes at Wake Tech, you must first earn an EPIC online teaching certification. This course is provided free of charge to all Wake Tech employees, and current adjunct instructors are compensated for the thirty hours required to complete the course. You can find more information at: waketech.edu/epic. In rare circumstances, instructors are approved to teach online without EPIC certification, but they must be enrolled in the EPIC program and working towards certificate completion. In general, we prefer for faculty to teach seated classes with us prior to teaching online.

What credentials are required to teach?

Our accrediting body requires that instructors hold a Master's degree with at least 18 hours in the subject they will be teaching. Graduate coursework is looked at closely to ensure compliance with this regulation. This means that COM faculty must have 18 graduate hours of courses from a Communication graduate program and DRA faculty must have 18 graduate hours of courses from a Drama/Theatre graduate program. Unfortunately, coursework that is interdisciplinary or not labeled as Communication or Drama/Theatre is often rejected by our auditors. Please know that we wish we could be more flexible with this policy!

How many students are in each class?

Our class caps are currently 22 students for each online section and 24 students for each seated section.

Why must my transcripts be uploaded into the Neogov system before I can be considered for a position?

Because of our strict credentialing requirements, we must ensure that candidates have the required coursework before moving them forward in the hiring process. Unofficial transcripts are needed before an interview can be scheduled.

Where is Wake Tech located?
