Notice:
  • She is quite stern and she wants to maintain discipline in the class.
  • She looks like a hawk, and her name sounds like 'aviary'. Nick was trying to mimic a bird sound.

Wonder:
  • If I were Nick, would I be afraid of this warning?
  • Why did she think it was Janet? Was Janet a troublemaker too?

Notice:
The school does not want to punish the teachers to stay back with the children for detention. Is that why the teachers created a list?

Wonder:
(i) Nick is not really good, bad or smart. What list would he be on?
(ii) Why do the teachers need a classification table for the students? 
(iii) How do the teachers teach the really bad kids?
(iv) Are the students streamed?

1. She seems like she just saw a dinosaur infront of her eyes.
2. She seems concerned/weird about the sudden change in behaviour.
3. She said it like she wanted Nick to change back into his old self.
4. Nick became a whole new person.


Wonder:
1. How come all of a sudden she cared about Nick's attitude [since they were in a war]?
2. What happened to Nick?
3. Why did he suddenly change and became quieter and more careful?
4. Did Nick change because of Mrs Granger?
5. Why does Mrs Granger call Nick a rascal? Did he do/say something to make her upset/stern/angry?
6. Did Nick realise his wrong-doing and changed for the better/worser?
7. Why did Nick come to school as a new person?

It is very obvious that everyone in the school will need to go through this process as they would all need to go to fifth grade, and there was only one language arts teacher.

-Mrs. Granger has a big responsibility as the only language arts teacher.
-She is teaching everyone in the school, as everyone of them are going to arrive at fifth-grade.

Wonder:
-What would happen if Mrs. Granger retired?

How is Mrs. Granger so smart that she can easily brush off Nick's question and continue the lesson while other teachers are not able to do so.

-His friends think highly of him because they say he is a "guaranteed time waster."

Wonder
-I wonder how did he create such a behavior?

In the second paragraph, the kids seem to be enjoying nicks 'time wasting ' question. As if they were encouraging Nick to continue .the school mate are quite lazy actually.

Wonder:
I'm pretty sure that not all the students are mischievous, why would the students join him if they know that this is right thing to do?
