         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Is more witty and tolerant.</li><li>Named after the Roman satirist Horace.</li><li>Gently criticizes human nature and human folly.</li></ul><div><strong>Example: </strong>Gulliver takes four different voyages and encounters four strange lands. In each, Swift is attempting to satirize some aspect of English society. For example, when Gulliver is in Lilliput, he learns that people are appointed to office based on their ability to walk a tightrope. He is satirizing the way that the English nobility of his day chose based on bloodlines and connection to the court.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Animal Farm as a satire (Philipp)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A book that retells the events of the russian revolution but with animals instead of people. The leading figures of the russian revolution were replaced by pigs. Firstly they support the other animals but shortly after they start to give themselves all the benefits. And like in the mans in animal farm in the  russian revolution the tesars are back at the end. Orwell used this satire to show that the people who took the power after the russian revolution arent more equal to the simle russian worker than the Tsars before than.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Horatian Satires:<br><br>"The Nose", by Nikolai Gogol;<br><br>- Gogol works incorporates aspects of a Horatian satire as he criticizes Russian society when expressing human's nature to value more one's external features, than what truly composes an individual.&nbsp;<br><br>- The author does so, however, in a very "gentle" manner as he criticizes through the use of humor.&nbsp;<br><br>"The Monkey's Paw", by W.W. Jacobs;<br><br>- Jacobs, although providing one sad and unfortunate ending to his story, proposes a reflection on the importance of material things when compared to one's life.&nbsp;<br>- He questions humans ability to value their loved ones, through a story that is, for the most part, cheerful.</div>]]></description>
