         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Space Race was a competition between the United States and Soviet Union. They were racing to produce technology fit to explore space with. The USSR was the first to succeed in space exploration when, in 1957, they released the worlds first artificial satellite. It was called Sputnik l and caused major anxiety in the US. In 1958 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was created with a mission to produce such technology. </div>]]></description>

It affected economic conflicts because from 1957 to 1964 the US spent around $16 billion on all military and civilian space programs and the USSR spent somewhere from $6 billion to $10 billion.</div>]]></description>
