Pokemon Go: a boon or a bane?

Assalamulaikum and very good morning, My name is Aminin Faqih Bin Mohd Amin and today I would like to talk about one of the famous apps nowadays which is the Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go is a free to play, locating-base augmented reality game. It is basically an application game for ios and Android devices that use the GPS technology. Did you watched Pokemon series in televion before? Now, Pokemon Go offers you to become a trainer itself and can catch and train pokemon. All you need to do is to go out of your house and looking for pokemon. Then the rest just follow the procedure stated. This apps was developed by Niantic and released in selected country starting from July 2016.

Pokemon Go received explosively popularity since its released and recently early in August, Pokemon was available in Malaysia and as expected, it was a huge hit. But along with it growing popularity, there also some critics about it. One of the critics about this game is that this game may harmful to user when the user loosed focus to their surrounding especially when the user play near the dangerous place such the road or construction site it may lead to the accident

But when come to my personal thought. I thinks that Pokemon Go has some positive things that we can gain from it. Aside from the obvious addictively fun, there are also some benefits for our physical and mental.

Firstly, Pokemon Go encourage you to walk a lot. Especially when the game tells you there is a Pokemon nearby on the map, then you willingly to walk a really significant distance. Plus, if you got and egg of the Pokemon and wants to hatch it, you will require to walk at least 2 km or 5 km for hatching process to complete. It doesn’t matter if you did have smartwatches like apple watch that can track you steps if you too lazy to walk, then it is useless. But for hatching and catching a Pokemon, some people may get attracted to do it.

Next, you get some fresh air and sunlight. It may sound cliched, but I did happened to read an article saying that there is wide studies suggest that breathing outside as long it not polluted may improve your mood and health. In addition, Yale study found that students’ test scores increased when they spent more time outside, and the difference appeared related to better air quality. It might difference here in Malaysia, because the air quality might not be the best due to haze, but you still getting the benefit of vitamin D rather than nothing.

Lastly, for my opinion, Pokemon Go helps in taking in brief break throughout work. Taking a break can prevent boredom and improve our concentration. The problem is, when you decided to break a while by checking Facebook, Twitter or even Instagram can sometime ending up taking too much time than you planned. But The beauty of Pokemon Go is you can take really planned break. For example, you decided to catch a Pokemon or two then get back to work.

In conclusion, Pokemon Go can be an amazing game that our smartphones can have and it can be very helpful to our physical and mental as long the user don’t take it for granted by taking less aware about the surrounding while playing this game.
