Hypocenter is where the earthquake originates from and the place where it occurs is called the epicenter. There are three types of earthquakes one of them is the convergent boundary here one plate is forced over another, which causes thrust faults. Another on is called the divergent boundary where plates shift apart from eachother causing a rift zone and creates new ocean floors. Finally, the transform fault where plates rub against eachother (this may also be called the 'strike slip'). Earthquakes are nothing but the shaking, rolling or a sudden shock of the earth's surface.
