The Ryus were a long line of "pureblood" vampires, dating back to the original wave of the first vampires. His father took a large and frowned upon risk when he turned a human and married her--making Killian the first "dirty" vampire of their line. A disgrace. But Killian did well enough for this to be looked over.

However, after seeing his mother cheat on his father and leave him for a Lilithian, Killian realized that even when turned, a human heart was still the same, and it was a worthless thing capable of only betrayal.

Killian learned hatred for humans quickly, following in his father's footsteps in believing they were only good for their practical uses. Livestock, meant to be herded and kept in pens.

Oh, but Killian doesn't snub them entirely. Humans are good for some things--namely blood, amusement, and satiating his lust.

They are playthings, and he treats them as such.

Killian understands the need to preserve human life only in the capacity that they are their only food source. But he scorns any human who wishes to climb in rank, or curry favor with him.

However--there is something far deeper beneath the surface. When Killian feeds, he swears he can feel a heart beating in his chest, the fluttering sensation driving him insane.

It caused him to be cruel in his work, earning him the nickname "Killer". Cruel, detached, fierce.

Yet he surrounds himself with human creation. Music, clothing, furniture--all of it handcrafted by skilled humans. He is a vampire who loathes humanity, while benefitting from it at every turn.
