The oldest male was still the head of the home. Plebeians lived in flats usually behind or above their shops, some plebeians could afford a house. The adults worked all day to try and earn money. The houses were tiny, and they would more than likely have to sleep in one room together. They didn't have water, even if they did, it wasn't clean, it was dirty. There was barley any breathing room. The only time that they go outside is to work, or when they save up enough money, go grocery shopping. Many plebeians lived in flats above or behind their shops. Some worked at artisans, shop keepers, and some were owners of small farms. If they were lucky some plebeians were able to afford salves to help them with the farm work. Plebeian men were allowed to vote but were not allowed to have a part in the government.
