They have to think and create a ship cruise to an imaginative place they decide on together (like "The cruise to unicorn island" , "Meet Lucifer cruise"). Together they have to make a brochure that is catchy enough advertising their tour. Also they have to make a Power Point presentation with prices, pictures and anything they can think that is suitable using as many Band 3 words and chunks. This allows all participants to engage in creative thinking and emphasize different talents like writing, drawing, singing and even cooking and bringing to class as well as learning new words.

With a partner who has the same interests the students research more about the topic and present it to the class in a fun interactive way. This way the students are able to go back to the topic that they were interested and have fun learning about.

The teacher will assign a variety of research questions that the students can choose from. The students will have to work on their projects and hand them in on a set date. On this day, the students will have to present their work to the class. Before the presentations, the teacher will hand out a sheet that the students have to fill out. For example, the topic, main idea, how the student accessed information, 2 new things I learned, and so on. Also, there will be room to write suggestions for further research or how to apply the research practically. Each student will receive all of the feedback and decide whether or not to continue the research by using questions from his/her peers or something of his/her own. A student that continues can make a summative activity around the research at the end of the year, and will also receive bonus points from the teacher towards the final grade. In addition, there will be a monthly update session where the student can update the class on his/her findings.
This idea fits what Kasey Bell says about allowing students to continue learning about something that interests them, as opposed to stopping them on the due date.

They will have to write the recepie and explain in English every step in their cooking.process and share it with their freinds, they can even create their own recepie and explain why it is so recommanded. this task is a good example of learning beyond the bell and the walls because kids can use the digital devices and tools anytime or anywhere they like. This way they become dynamic learners who take ownership of not only their learning but their time.

Grades define a student, they define him as a person, they define him against his friends and they define him as part of the school. Does graded really define a person? I believe grades can bring a student up but they can also bring a student down. I think a good word can do much more than a simple grade, a student can learn for hours and just because they had a bad night's sleep they can lose a test. Giving the student a personal review about a test and discussing their experience can be more fruitful than a grade on a test or diploma.

You can come up with an idea to have sessions that students from different grades sit together and discuss different topics that are written in advance. After a few minutes, you can ring a bell as a sign to change places and topics for the discussion. "Multi-age learning" can inspire them to learn more even by themselves.

picture taken from:
https://acsieurope.org/cms/en-us/slc-report-2018

For example: after learning new words in class, pupils go to the website and rewrite under each new word their perspective. Pupils can draw a design that helps them to remember the meaning. Moreover, students can write a funny sentence that helps them to memorize the explanations. Nevertheless, students can even write a poem or a short song that combines several new words we have learned. This approach can help all studnets since there are several ways to learn new words.

Tzofnat Klein

Beyond the Grade level and Subject area

In my opinion, the “Maker” movement gives our students an amazing opportunity to become more creative beyond the subject areas we teach and the grade level, without limiting their interest.
“Maker” education is a great tool for hands-on activities, learning by doing and playing (which is active learning). It fits the 21st century skills of the 4 c’s, communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. Moreover, this tool supports the development of a mindset that values experimentation, grows and collaboration. The students will experience design thinking, inspiration of creating something new, problem-solving in the project and sharing it with others. They will also enjoy using and expressing their own talents. Students will create a project, based on their own interest by using real-world tools (low-cost materials, 3D printer, robotics, microprocessors, wearable computing, e-textiles …). Such as: learning science by creating their own experiments, creating robots by using recycled material, making a motorized boat when learning about technology and etc…
After completing the project they will be able to share their ideas and teach it to other people, by either publishing it online or physically presenting it to others (in most cases they will also get a feedback on it). This will encourage them to be more organized and improve their self-confidence. These activities motivate learning incredibly; students will love learning and enjoy being a part of the lesson. This way we will help our students to think outside the box and enable innovations in the class.

https://www.edweek.org/topics/maker-educatio`n/index.html

I chose this “Beyond” because it reminded me the film- "Pay it forward".

This film talks about teacher that gives the class an assignment to devise and put into action a plan that will change the world for the better. The head player is a young kid (Trevor) who plans charitable program based on the networking of good deeds. He calls his plan "pay it forward", which means the recipient of a favor does a favor for three others rather than paying the favor back. However, it needs to be a major favor that the recipient cannot complete themselves. When I was young I always thought to myself that if I will a teacher I definitely going to do this. So it fits the Beyond the Bell this dynamic learning can make the students work after school with things that can make the world much better plays.
