Things that all or most of our horror stories have in common:

Most of our horror stories we have read refer to an event that has happened in the past. For example the author would usually say "A long time ago right where i am standing a man was murdered". They will try to give you goose bumps and scare you. Also most horror stories movies and more hint at what is going to happen but don't just come out and say it. They create suspense when the main event is close, for example... If all the signs are pointing at not going in the basement, the characters go in the basement anyway. This is just like what happened in the short story Dracula's Guest. The guy wanted to go into this old abandoned village and everyone told him not to but he did anyway. The authors also make you think that one event is going to happen but then a different event happens to create the unexpected. In horror stories all the settings are very similar for example: the settings are never on a beautiful sunny day they are usually at night, in a storm, or dark and gloomy days, If the book is taken place indoors the room is usually dark because most people get scared of the dark The setting is also very well described so you can feel or picture the terror of what it would look like to the characters

These Are some stories we've read and their summaries:

Appearance is about a woman who moved into a new home. Once she moved in she noticed a man she has never see before at her back door. He never tried to come in or arm anyone so she tried to greet him ,but every time she attempted to do so he would disappear into the white snow. Later she found a woman sitting in a car that look sad so she asked what's wrong. The new home owner noticed she'd been staring at her new house and asked if it used to belong to her. It was her and her husbands old home but they moved because something tragic happened which was her husband passed away. Eventually she realized the man looking in her window was the dead husband trying to reunite with his wife. Security Camera is about two boys working a night shift at a convenience store. While they were at the cash they noticed a lady standing in fort of the magazine stand. Hours went by and they noticed that she hasn't move from where she used to be. They went to the stand and she wasn't there, then they went back to the counter and seen her back looking at magazines. They each went on either side so she'd be cornered, she still wasn't there. The boys were getting scared and decided to just go back to the camera. They stood watching the camera and one of the boys said don't turn around. The other boy noticed the woman's reflection on the screen holding a knife. That was the end of the story.

Theme

The Bowman: The theme of this story was to never to lose faith. I think this because when the English were down one solider prayed to God and Saint Gorge to help them, and they did. Also in the text it says that 'Saint Gorge had brought his Agincourt Bowman to help the English.

Appearance: The theme of appearance is that love is infinite. We know this because the ghost of her dead husband came back to reunite with his wife. This means love lives on even though you don't. If the man came back to find wife it does mean love is infinite.

Car Keys: The theme of Car Keys is that you shouldn't don't be alone driving in the middle of nowhere. We think this because when the car broke down the father left his kid alone on a forest just sitting in a car. Then he got murdered and the girl couldnt get away because he had the car keys. So overall you should always be with a friend and stick together.

Characters and Characters Traits

Appearance: The main character in Appearance is Amy. Amy isn't the type of person to jump to conclusions for example: when she saw the shadowy figure outside her window she didn't automatically think he was trying to kill her. Also, when she seen the woman outside her house she didn't assume she would do any harm to her house or to her. Amy is a very kind and caring person, when she saw that the lady was sad and depressed she went over to her car even though she didn't know her.

Santa's Head Elf: In Santa's Head Elf the main character was Evangeline. Some of her traits were helpful and caring. These are some of her traits because when a young boy was about to be murdered by the same man that murdered her, she tried to stop him. Although she didn't the young boy still survived. He survived because the young boy was Santa's head elf. She was also nice because she distracted him as long as she could so the boy could get away.

Introduction, rising action and climax

Video Camera: Video camera is about a college boy who has an appartement and is stuff is always being rearranged or completely gone. The rising action of the story is when he puts the video camera on in his room and then watched the tape after school. The main climax is at the end of the video when he sees the woman in his closet with a big knife and doesn't come out. Then he sees himself come home from school. That means shes still in the closet he hear the closet door creek open and then he got stabbed 21 times and now is dead.

Irony

An example we found of irony is in Appearance when she saw the strange shadowy figure outside her window. This story was considered a horror story so you'd assume that the figure of a man was going to murder or harm her but didn't.

In Santa's Head Elf the guy that murdered the other girl tried to murder someone else by hitting him over the head but then decided to help him afterwards.

In the story Car keys an example of irony is when the guy is walking down the road the young girl expected his to be coming to help them because their car crashed but instead he came to kill her.

In Video Camera an example of irony we found is that you wouldn't expect the murderer to hide in his closet you would just think you would see footage of the thing or person moving and taking his belongings. Then while he's watching the footage she comes behind him and kills him.
