In my opinion, visible violence could easily be seen because it is physical. This includes abuse, discrimination, or inflicting harm on a person's body. Invisible violence tackles any psychological abuses that could distort or negatively affect an individual's mind. Invisible violence is a kind of harm that is difficult to distinguish since it is not really evident. Even if there is a difference between the two, both of them are still negative, and not healthy for one's mindset. As much as possible, we should peace instead of violence.

10 Emerald
Angeles

To me, visible violence is the kind of violence we can easily grasp and recognize; it’s the kind you can catch sight of everyday such as but not limited to physical or verbal violence. Visible violence is what’s usually covered by the media and what immediately comes to our head when we think of the word ‘violence’. On the other hand, I personally believe that invisible violence is a “more dangerous” type of violence because it’s what you least expect to creep up on you; invisible violence is a silent killer, especially since it’s what we can’t notice at first glance. Living in a patriarchal system is the initial example I thought of because it’s a system that violates the peace of those who don’t benefit from it; it’s much more complex than just punching someone because it also requires extreme analysis and critical thinking to even acknowledge this as violence.

- Garcia, Athena (10-Topaz, GH)

For me visible violence is when we directly see actions that harm others, like engaging in physical fights, etc. Invisible violence is less straightforward and can become unnoticed. An example of this is when people disregard, neglect or do not listen to our thoughts and opinions because they are "too busy" or because they have "more important things to worry about". This can be considered as invisible violence because sometimes people who do the invalidating because they are "too busy" or have "more important things to worry about" might not directly realize that they've offended you or invalidated your feelings.

Garcia,Bea 10T GH

One would be able to recognize sexist attitudes, victim blaming, inappropriate/sexually imposing jokes, disclosure of private details, and unwanted touch. Perhaps not even just recognize, but have (unfortunately) experienced it firsthand. This supposedly "typical" inappropriate behavior couldn't be anything more, right? However the link from abuse to assault is evident to only a few. These seemingly harmless acts contribute to a much more wide-ranged set of behaviors that encourages explicit violence in itself. It's a system interlinked with one another which a majority fails to realize. These are not isolated incidents. It's systematic.

- E.S.O 10R GH

Visible violence is what we can see with our naked eye. Violence that we can see is war, verbal and physical abuse, disagreements, and more. Invisible violence is what we can't see with our eyes or what we do not notice. This is the type of violence that we aren't aware of. One good example is when we cannot see the fact that there is tension growing with one another. We might think in our part that we are okay with this person but the truth is we aren't and that person actually hates you. There is an ongoing disagreement that hasn't been solved but we never notice it.

-Bolaños, 10A

Visible violence is as simple as the acts of violence being physically done and seen by others. For example, when a mother hits her child for misbehaving. This is an act of physical violence as one can the see the form of violence. Invisible violence is acts of violence that do not necessarily have to be physically done and it is not physically seen by others. For example, when a parent ignores the feelings and emotions of his/her children, it builds certain issues within in their children that can result into mental health illness or insecurities.

- Yashika Chuttani, SA 10-Ruby

An example of visible violence is the violence against minority groups around the world. Through the help of TV and social media, we are aware that there are multiple indigenous groups, racial groups, genders, and religions that constantly face discrimination simply because they are not what the world categorizes as "normal". An example of invisible violence is the domestic violence people experience. Since domestic violence usually happens inside homes, people do not put importance in this very important issue.

- EDG 10E

Say for example, a situation where two people are physically being violent with one another by punching or kicking each other. Invisible violence, on the other hand, would be something more verbal. For example: insulting someone verbally wouldn't affect them physically. It won't leave any obvious bruises on the body, nor any scratches. Words are different kinds of weapons that can cut deeper than any punch or kick. Most people tend to hide the pain that was caused to them using these invisible weapons, which makes invisible violence very dangerous. No one can really see it until it is at it's worst.

-Princess Tuplano, 10G

Visible acts of violence are those incidents or outbursts in which the perpetrator can be clearly recognised. When one person hits another, there is a very distinct actor and victim in the violent act of the punch. The perpetrator is readily recognized as a violent offender, and the relationship between the offender and victim is clear-cut. Invisible violence, in contrast to visible violence, lacks a definite agent or perpetrator. It frequently goes unnoticed in the background of incidents of obvious aggressiveness. Any complete description of "violent" events or circumstances must acknowledge that unseen processes are crucially necessary to enable and sustain visible manifestations in the foreground.

The Problem and its Roots

In my opinion, visible violence is any type of physical abuse/assault, because people are already aware of things like domestic violence, violence against women, violence against race, etc. On the other hand, invisible violence is the root of their problems like misogyny, sexism , racism etc. I say this because I notice how many people look for solutions to their main problems, while completely ignoring the root of those problems. If this continues to be the case, then the solutions that people come up with will only work short-term, no matter how effective it may be in the present because the origin of the problem is ignored. In other words, we have to look at the one thing that is causing our issues before we try to fix it, so we can come up with more effective and long-term solutions.

-Paula Polloso (FV, 10-Ruby)

For me, visible violence is when major superpowers like the US, UK, Korea, France, and many others show off their latest military tech. When you look at these mighty war machines, they, first of all, look intimidating because the big superpowers have spent millions into them in order to assert their dominance in the battlefield. Secondly, when they step onto the battlefield, they strike fear, particularly into innocent civilians, because the damage they inflict may cause great harm to those caught up in the fighting.
Invisible violence, on the other hand, is around us. On the internet, invisible violence is common and prevalent, particularly in sports. For example, after the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, former Formula One driver Nicholas Latifi was subject to internet abuse and death threats for causing one of the most controversial moments in Formula One history. Invisible violence is a serious problem, because the consequences of invisible violence may happen in real life, and the consequences that happen in real life will not be good.
