Cultural appropriation is the inappropriate use of elements of one culture from a member of another culture. This is often considered harmful to the members of the culture that is being adopted inappropriately. Cultural appropriation is important to address because the dominant culture often benefits and gets credit for stolen aspects of culture when the non-dominant culture doesn't benefit and isn't noticed. We need to recognize this problem so we can learn and improve. One example of cultural appropriation is taking an important object from a specific culture and producing it as a Halloween costume.
