Thor, Loki, and Thialfi visit the planet of the name of Jotunheim. On their journey, they found a giant named Skrmir. Overnight, Thor tried to get into the giant's wallet, and after he failed, he attempted to attack him as well. Non of these attempts phased the giant, and he suspected that it was something like an acorn falling on his head. The morning came and they came upon the city of the giants. They met their king, Utgard-Loki. He told the men that they are only permitted in the town if they excel of something better than anyone else in the city. They failed in everything that that said, and were kicked from the town. Thor left with much anger for the giants, but when he came back to destroy the town, it was gone.

My Fan Fiction of the myth starts the same as the original myth does, with one difference, Thor and his companions were giants and they were meeting midgets. Although they were giants in trial against midgets, they still could not beat them in any trial, and again were kicked from the town.

Sources Which It Inspired

The myth did not inspire many other sources, but just a select few. There is a short story that is much like the original myth, where Thor and Loki went to Jotunheim to get Thor's hammer back from the giants. In the process, they had to complete a few tasks in order to get it back. Also, it inspired a part in the first Thor movie where they had to go to the planet of the frost giants to get information from them. The final source which it inspired was a painting of Thor encountering the king and the rest of the giants.
