What's YIM??

You may ask and wonder what’s YIM or Youth In Mission? Well at first I wondered aswell what does the program about or for. After sometime from our teachers explaining and hearing stories from my seniors, nowI know what’s YIM is for. YIM is a program that’s for us to share our blessings and love from God to them by serving, helped, or made them happy for people in need or elders or maybe childrens that their family economics are quite low. This program happened during the 16th of September until the 20th. For this program, we worked in teams and chose personal mission, so everything from the activities, where to go, the budget, we decided it ourselves but with the guidance and approval from a teacher.

Activities at remnant preschool

For two days straight, Tuesday and Wednesday, we went to a preschool that’s filled with children whose families’ economics are worse/low. I was so happy when I knew that we would be going there because I love playing with kids even though. I do enjoy spending time with them. On the first day, there was another team that was in the same place as ours, so we just helped and assisted the kids on doing their activities. Then on the second day, we did and follow our own rundown. We and the kids decorated a Christmas tree, played, and read together. They were very energetic and playful. I missed being with them, I wish I could turn back time to be with them.

What I felt at the nursing houses

Then on Thursday, we went to two nursing houses. Which was very fun but at the same time it was tiring. Both of the nursing houses gave an opposite vibe. The grandparents at the first nursing house were very open, and kind, and the grandparents would initiate a conversation first. On the other hand, the other nursing house was filled with silence and it was very awkward to be there. But luckily we brought some games, like board games and cards so it was quite effective to bring up the mood.

The fun at recycling depot

On the last day which was Friday, we went to a recycling depot. The workers there were very kind, open, and fun to be around. Surprisingly separating trash was very fun and not that boring. Once again there was another team there, I thought it was going to be awkward but it turned out they were very enjoyable to be with, all of them were very friendly with us. So we made new friends from other class. One of my teammates bought recycled items from the depot, he was so happy when he bought it.

Finishing touches

When the YIM ended, I learned so many things. From how to be patient, how to socialize more, how to separate trash properly, how to take care of elders, and more. It was such a memorable and heartwarming event, it helped me grow. there were a lot of mistakes and problems but at the end we could solve them. So I knew that there would always be a way out of every problem, nothing is impossible. I'm excited for next year’s YIM, I hope it’ll give me more lessons and more memories to remember.
