The plot for my film is:

Equilibrium - Everything is normal before anyone is kidnapped. They are all just living their lives normally and getting on with what they need to do.
Disequilibrium - Max's friend is kidnapped by somebody. Max witnesses the kidnapping but when she tries to help she's knocked unconcious by an unknown person. When she wakes up she is confused and disorientated, and the police offer her no help and don't believe her. She gets help from her friend Faith who is skeptical about what has happened but still decide to help Max. When they begin to investigate they find out that many people have gone missing, so they decide to investigate further because they think that all of the kidnappings are connected. They are sent an anonymous message warning them to stop trying to find out what has happened because they may uncover things that they don't want to know about the situation. Max decides to ignore the warning and carries on trying to uncover the truth. She comes up with the plan to wait where her friend was kidnapped and wait until they take her. She lets them take her and acts like she;s scared until they leave her with the others. She manages to free herself and the others that were kidnapped and calls the police without the kidnappers finding out that she was doing this. When the police arrive they let Max and the others out of the locked room and find the people responsible for the kidnapping. Once the police have them, it turns out to be a bad guy who was planning to kill the girls.
Equilibrium - Everything is back to normal after the teachers have been arrested and put in prison. The people who were kidnapped told the police everything that happened. Everyone has gone back to how life was before it all happened, and everyone is safe.

VLADIMIR PROPP

Propp suggests that every narrative has eight different character types. These are:

The Hero

The Villian

The Damsel

The Dispatcher

The False Hero

The Helper

Her Father

The Donor

In the plot for my film these apply as we have different character types, as Propp suggests every narrative has.

The Villain -

In the narrative for my film the villain is the bad guy that kidnaps Louise and Faith, and the other people that have gone missing.

The Hero -

In my narrative Max is the hero as she is the one that witnesses the kidnapping of Louise and decides to do something, and she is the one that puts up missing posters and then eventually finds Louse and Faith after she gets the phone call from the unknown caller she goes to where they are and helps them escape.

The Dispatcher -

The dispatcher is the unknown caller that calls Max, as they are the ones that tell Max where to go if she wants to find Louse and Faith.

The Helper -

The helper is Faith before she gets kidnapped as she helps Max look for clues and try to figure out what happened before she is kidnapped.

The Damsel -

The Damsel is Louise as she is the one that Max knows is kidnapped and who Max initially is trying to find before she realities the needs to find Faith too. Louise is waiting for someone to find her or for the bad guy to do something to her.

I think that these are the character types that apply to my narrative.

TZVETAN TODOROV

Todorov's theory is that every narrative follows the same pattern which is:

Equilibrium - This is where everything is normal and how it's supposed to be.

Disequilibrium - When everything is disturbed by an event that happens.

Then the characters realise something has happened.

The characters then try to fix what has happened because of the event that took place.

New Equilibrium - Everything has gone back to how it was before.

I think that this applies to my narrative as at the start everything is normal and everybody is living their lives normally, then when Louise is kidnapped this is the disequilibrium as something serious has happened, and then Max realises that someone has been kidnapped when she wakes up from being knocked out, and then she and Faith try to fix what has happened before Faith is then also kidnapped. Once Max finds where Louise and Faith are and they are safe the narrative then goes into a new equilibrium where everything goes back to normal and how it should be.

LEVI STRAUSS

Strauss' theory is that every narrative has binary opposites that shows conflict between the two. Some of the binary opposites that he came up with were:

Man Vs Woman Hero vs Villain

Young vs Old Peace vs War

Strong vs Weak Night vs Day

Love vs Hate Good vs Evil

I think that the binary opposite of hero vs villain applies to my narrative because Max is the hero and the bad guy is the villain and Max wants to find where Louise and Faith are and the bad guy is the one that kidnapped them in the first place.

I also think that good vs evil applies to my narrative for the same sort of reason, as Max is trying to be the good person and save Louise and Faith from the bad guy, and they are the evil one because they kidnapped them which isn't something that your average person would do, as common sense tells them it's wrong.

I think that strong vs weak could apply as when Louise and Faith were kidnapped they would have put up a fight to try and stop the kidnapper, but the kidnapper was stronger than them which is why they managed to kidnap both of them/

ROLAND BARTHES

Barthes believed that one or more of the five codes describe the meaning of a text. He also says that texts can be open, which means that it is shown in many ways, or it is closed which means that Iit can only be read in one way.

The first code that he came up with is herenutic code, which is where the narrative avoids telling the truth or doesn't reveal all the facts about something so that clues can be dropped. In a way I think this fits my narrative because the audience doesn't know what really happened to Louise or Faith, but then Max and Faith before she is kidnapped find some clues as to what has happened.

The second code is the enigma code where there is tension built up and he audience is left guessing what's happening or what's going to happen. I think this fits in slightly with my narrative as the audience may feel as though there is tension when Max and Faith a looking for Louise and then when Faith is taken, and then when Max is looking for Louise and Faith and she gets a phone call from the unknown caller there is tension when she goes to the place they told her to go because the audience don't know what to expect.

The third code is the semantic code, which is which points to any element in a media text that suggests a particular, often additional meaning, by the way the story suggests I don't think that it this really fits within my narrative as it's pretty straightforward.

The fourth code is the code that looks at the audience and the wider cultural knowledge, morally and ideology. I think this applies to m narrative because I looked at what they would like and be interested in before writing my narrative so that I knew what to include and not to include in my trailer.

There is also the action which is supposed to be when the media text features any action, however I think this doesn't really apply to my narrative as it isn't heavily based on action.
