1. The study of literature in this class  is meant to learn how to evoke emotion in people and feel the message being written. This is done to make the audience understand writing in a deeper level more than just logistic writing and analyses. While reading TTTC the audience is made to be immersed with the experience of war. We read the story to gather knowledge on how to write and how to make the audience feel the story rather than listen to it.


2. When reading a text and becoming emotionally invested in excerpts there is a further comprehension than just knowing the story and its moral. Feeling the story allows for a better understanding of the text in a super rich context. These experiences with stories allow readers to implement lessons taught from the stories into their daily lives. When Reading TTTC, We are impacted by O'Brien's matter of fact tone which represents his loss of touch to modern and standard life and health due to the Vietnam war.


3. The irregular structure of TTTC allow for readers to better connect beliefs and claims just made to stories told by O'Brien. O'Brien's stories also act as his reasoning for his claims and beliefs which allows the reader to better understand his emotions and life in the war.

Global issues addressed in TTTC are issues of war and how it makes societies alienated and strange. O'Brien addresses the savage nature of war, but also the ravage it deals to countries that start the war, for example, O'Brien mentions the alienation of soon to be soldiers, and how they are misunderstood and ignored or even taunted when they do not want to kill or die. How did you do during the Harkness discussions?
The issue with the Harkness discussions is that it's awkward, we still bring remarkable thoughts of interpretation to the discussion, but I have noticed that the people sharing do get discouraged by silence, including me. Overall however the points discussed about each excerpt allowed me to better understand the book which meant I actually learned something from the meetings. I was also vey happy to get feedback on disagreeing viewpoints to my annotations

    1. How important is cultural or historical context to the production and reception of a literary text? Cultural and historical context is very important as it adds a complexity to a writing about struggle, and develops a deeper global issue rather than an "on the surface"  personal issue.
    2. How do we approach literary texts from different times and cultures to our own? We tend to look at many perspectives rather than just one. As a person in the present, I have many rooted ideals and many flexible ;however , I am only one person and all people have their own opinions. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge that differences in opinions had impacts on the past as much as they have impacts in the present.
    3. How do literary texts reflect, represent or form a part of cultural practices?  The discussion of the effects of culture, the positives and negatives of culture, and the process of culture, may represent the development of practices carried out today, or dark pasts and how time has improved on dark morals that weren't negatively seen in the past.

    The meaning of the novel is affected by this stream of though flow. The stream of thought gives this insider image/perspective of how the events are being lived, and emphasizes the human nature involved in drastic and emotional scenarios

     I found a more in depth connection between COADF and TTTC since they both talked about the pressure of honor, but it also connected with Beloved and how people can obsess over something so much it harms themselves and others, it also connects to Hughes Poems since both are taken from a viewpoint of observation

    I was affected by Days in memory in a way of mostly emotional response to the traumatic stories told by Delbo. All of the struggles of the oppressed prisoners were all terrifying, and shook the humanity out of those who killed for a flag

    D&M connects with TTTC as it talks about the horrors of war, and the harsh reality of it's deadliness, and torture. It also connects with both beloved and Langston Hughes as it shows the oppression of Prisoners deemed inferior, similar to how black people were considered inferior to white.

    D&M connects to our world today, as the events that occurred in the book heavily construct the rules of human rights today.
