This picture was taken just before my 18th birthday. My mum and I had just had a huge argument, but I promised her I'd smile for the camera. Growing up I argued a lot with my mum about the fact that she never really took any pictures of me as a child. I always felt a bit left out when my classmates would show me pictures of themselves as kids. On my 18th birthday my mum came into my room with a little box filled with old pictures from my childhood. There were so many. I felt so bad for shouting at her. After the photoshoot she told me it had nothing to do with her work, she just wanted some pictures of me and her alone. It was after my 18th birthday, when I stopped looking at my mum as my enemy. She needed me just as much as I needed her. Today my mum and I are the closest we've ever been, even though she's so far away. I really wish to portray all the emotions I'm feeling while writing this in my performance. I want to show the bittersweet relationship between mother and daughter and all the complexities and hardships that come with it, but also all the love, forgiveness, and understanding that's needed to make the relationship work.

As I mentioned in my portfolio, I very much appreciated the amount of technical help we got throughout this Unit. The fact that each of us got enough time to test and rehearse our pieces was crucial for the outcome of our pieces. I believe putting us into smaller groups was definitely the way to go, as it made the process much easier.

I loved seeing my peers create and explore their ideas, as I got to be a part of something much bigger than I thought. I believe many of us feel like we opened up a door into our pasts throughout this Unit. At times it felt uncomfortable to show such a vulnerable side of myself, however that was exactly what I needed to do.
