ASSURE Model

Comparison: The Assure Model is geared for education and focuses more on the selection of materials rather than their development, as is seen in the ADDIE model. Often, teachers have a variety of materials that they select from in order to meet their objectives, as is with my case, where much of the course materials are already provided. How the educator chooses to implement them, is left up the teacher and the media sources available. This model is also unique, as it ask the developer to think about classroom participation. This is similar to the ADDIE model in that it ask the educator to analyze the learner's prior to instruction, in order to needs of the learners and understand what they already know.

Comparison: The ADDIE model is the framework that all other instructional design models are based, and should not be overlooked. Compared to the 4D model, this model is very linear in approach, and is often criticized as such. Similar to the ASSURE model, the ADDIE model evaluates the learner's needs and also takes into account the expectations of stakeholders. This can also impact how the information is taught and determine if the training will take place online, or be computer based.

The Four-Door (4D) ELearning Model

This model is very different from the other models, as it allows the learners to have complete control over how the approach the skill or task they are attempting to complete. The Model is broken up into four areas of the Library, playground, evaluation center, and cafe. The names of these areas can be changed depending on the type of training needed. The learners decides which area they would like to explore based on their knowledge and experiences.

The ASSURE model best fits my blended classroom because it focuses on instruction both and and outside the classroom, as well as how the knowledge is facilitated using technology. Also, as engagement is a push at my current institution, requiring learner participation is essential to my instructional design.

The ADDIE Model is the classical model in which all other models are based. This model would fit my blended learning environment well, but does not have a strong emphasis on selection of available tools, nor requiring learning participation.

This model might be better suited for a particular lesson where learners use of choice would be appropriate, however, for my purposes in the classroom, that is heavily tied to state standards, implementing this model may be quite difficult, as much online content would need to be developed. While I genuinely like the idea of this model and could see it easily blended with the ASSURE model, I would use this model if my course were entirely online.
