My name is Miss Johnson and I am so excited to have you as a student in my class. As you will soon learn, I absolutely love reading, writing and studying literature. I am a huge fan of history but I also spend quite a bit of time reading fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy. My favorite book of all time would have to be the Hobbit written by J.R.R. Tolkien. I love stories in particular so I also enjoy watching movies and television shows. (Personally, I think Netflix is the greatest invention since the book!) Another huge passion of mine is Shakespeare. I have always enjoyed reading and watching his plays. This last year I even had the opportunity to actually visit the Globe in London, England and watch four different Shakespeare plays be acted out. It was amazing. I'm fairly terrible when it comes to technology but I think you'll find I am a full blown geek!

Sophomore English

This class will focus on some fun and interesting works including To Kill a Mocking Bird, Julius Caesar, Frankenstein, and so much more. We will also explore different styles of writing including personal narratives and persuasive essays. Most English teachers claim that they want to make reading and writing fun but then proceed to make it just another boring English class. As much as I would like this to be just a "fun" English class, I would rather have it be engaging and fascinating. My goal in this English class is to show you how to use language and literature to make real world impacts using fun and innovative tools that are necessary for life beyond high school.

Objectives

-read and analyze novels, short-stories, poems and essays

-write well written argumentative essays using textual evidence for support

-work collaboratively in a group setting

-use technology in order to present group projects

-set personal goals for self-improvement and meet them

Expectations

-be respectful of your teacher, your fellow students and the classroom

-come to class prepared to work

-participate and ask questions

-if you have a problem, come and speak to me

By using padlet, I am demonstrating to the students that I have knowledge and skills using essential tools that can be used in the work place. It communicates well with the students and even with parents.
