Stop motion tool

Critique -

Content quality -

Provides simple steps that the students are able to follow unassisted. Provides a quick video where they do not need to open youtube, provides pictures so they students can make sure they are on the right track.

Usability -

The site is easy to use for all levels within the class. Clear instructions that students are able to adapt based on their own knowledge. Students are able to access the resource easily with a link and know how to use websites - scroll down for more information ect.

Reason for selection -

I have selected this as it is clear and concise. I am able to apply this resource to a document for the students to lead their own learning.

Appropriateness -

This resource links to the Arts strand of clay motion so the students can understand the background of their task. It links in perfectly with the instructions of the task so there is less time explaining and more time doing the stop motion

Soil painting instructional resource:

Critique -

Content quality -

This resource is appropriate to the topic and will limit the amount of teaching time required.

Usability -

The site is easy to use for all levels within the class. Clear materials and list of simplified and easy to read instructions.

Reason for selection -

I have selected this tool so that students can have instructions to refer back to when making the soil paint for their artwork. I like the simplicity of this, it's only for students to learn how to make their paint.

Appropriateness -

The idea of soil painting incorporates science with Art, as students are using materials from the earth to create a piece of artwork. They will also be able to deepen their understanding of different soil types, seeing that different types of soil will make different types of paint.

Building Bridges resource

Critique -

Content quality -

This is a good size clip that can be linked into a power point so the students don't need to open youtube. Good quality video with clear instructions and a good clear site it comes from.

Usability -

Students are able to look at the video and pause it if they are following along where they need to as well as go back to any point of the video to follow along with instructions with a visual aid.

Reason for selection -

I have selected this because it is a clear high-quality video that is engaging. It can be used in a whole class setting or individually depending on when the students are working on their task or want to access it at home.

Appropriateness -

This resource links to the unit through strong bridge design. With previous knowledge of how the bridges look on the roads we are looking into.

Local mural examples

Teacher to show students various local examples of murals, such as the hairy maclary mural on the waterfront (for my actual unit I will do much more research into the local murals in Tauranga and select carefully).

Critique -

Content quality -

These murals are relevant to the students and their local community. There are murals in the community that are also culturally inclusive and tell māori stories, which would be good to draw upon. The quality of these murals are also good as they use images and colours to effectively tell a story.

Usability -

Images of these murals could easily be shown in a slideshow to the students. Realistically, students would have also seen these murals at some point in person. There are opportunities to expand with an EOTC experience as well.

Reason for selection -

I have selected this tool as students can use local examples to understand how a mural can tell a story, and then take this into creating their own mural.

Appropriateness -

Year 5 students are at an age that they can interpret meaning behind visual images, so this learning will support them in developing this.
