As a Latin teacher, my first impulse is to say, "Yes", all high school students should be required to learn a second language, since it will help them to understand English better, as well as learn about another culture besides our own. But then I think, is that really fair to REQUIRE it? Not all students are good at languages. Many students struggle just to do well in English. Not all students will need to know a second language. So I guess my answer would be that a second language option should be OFFERED and ENCOURAGED to all high school students, but not REQUIRED.

In one way i agree with this statement, yet on the other hand i
disagree. The reasons for me agreeing are because maybe when you go and
try to find a job or go to college they will look to see if you learned a
second language and sometimes that language
is required to be spoken at certain jobs and such. I also disagree
though because on the other hand this hasn't always been a graduation
requirement has it? Why make it harder for some kids to graduate and get
their diploma? I don't know maybe its just me
but i struggled when i had to learn a different language. The other
thing is that well some high school students already know how to speak a
different language and are able to achieve higher grades than those who
don't. I guess you could say i disagree with
this statement more then i agree because i don't really feel like in
today's society we need to speak more then our native language.

They should have a choice if weather they want to learn another language or not. There is a plus side is that if you do learn a second language it benefits you in a great way.
