Charlie LeCave - Space padlet by Charlie LeCave

In my research on space, I learned what space is, how big space is, and why it’s so hard to get to space.

One thing I learned is space has many dangers and it is very easy to get lost or stranded.
Space is the everything beyond the atmosphere of earth, but, most of space consists of dark energy and dark matter. Space is also the closest thing known to a perfect vacuum. You can get lost in space very easily because there is no friction, so, you could just float away.

Another thing I learned is that no one really knows how big space is, but, we know how much we can see.

The universe, is about 13.8 billion years old, so any light we see has been traveling for 13.8 billion years. We call this the “Observable Universe”. Relevant to that, the universe may be infinite but we can only see the finite speed of light. Astronomers also think space might just be infinite with “stuff”

The final thing I learned is that you need a lot of money and fuel to get to space.
It's hard to get to space because the escape velocity is 11.2 km/s, and that's really fast. This can convert over to about 25000 mph, which is impossible to travel unless you have special materials. Another reason is there is background radiation and it's very dangerous and can kill people, even, through their space suits.
