Paper is best because it is made of wood which is a renewable source. Paper is biodegradable as it breaks down eventually. May paper bags are made from recycled paper in recycling plant. If made from wood, trees are grown to replace the ones forested. Plastic bags is made of oil, natural gases and coal. This creates pollution as well as destroying wildlife by mining and other ways of extraction. Plastic doesn't break down, which means it can re-used although not everyone does and if it gets into the sea can pollute the ecosystem. Also it chokes turtle who eat them thinking they are jellyfish, lowering their population.

I think paper bags are better as appose to plastic bags, they are biodegradable and won't take up space in landfill waste sites. Wood is also renewable, and trees can be re-grown to replace damaged animal habitats. Paper is also less energy efficient as plastic comes from crude oil which must be refined and has to undergo fractional distillation
