Major Decisions

My parents always said they tried to make major decisions together, though I never believed that. You see, my mother is a very controlling person, where it's her way or the highway, and my father is simply not. So I assumed that they tried to talk about it, but my mother just ended up pushing him around to get what she wanted.

Jokes were, and still are, a huge part of my family. Wherever we are, you can hear us laughing and snorting up a storm, which some might see as a good thing, however, our jokes almost always seemed to be at the expense of someone else. Whether it's laughing at someone who tripped, chuckling at my father for mixing up words, or even giggling at the person who ripped their bumper off while parking, it always came about due to someone's misfortune.

Competition was a huge part of growing up. Both my parents' families are super competitive when it comes to basically anything. During family game nights we have a motto; if you're not winning your goal is to make sure no one else can. And it's always been like that ever since I can remember.

Punishment

My parents had many forms of punishments throughout my childhood. When we were little it was always standing with our noses in the corners, with the occasional spankings. For a couple of years after that, we had to deal with 'the switch'. This was a round piece of wood or metal that came from old drying racks. Depending on the severity of what you had done, you could either come away from the encounter with a couple of marks or a handful of welts, in certain circumstances you could even be left bleeding from a small gash. Once my parents realized that for of punishment wasn't acceptable these days, they resorted to taking away privileges instead.
