It's about a monster that shows up into his life that he sees but others may not, but it's not the monster that isn't scary and all but it's one that wants to gain some knowledge about something that Conor may dread. The monster possibly wants to know about something that's in the past or present in Conors life, but Conor is unsure and dislikes that topic and tries his best to stray away from the truth and the monster.

What information did you learn during the exposition? (Characters, setting, conflict, etc)?

I learned how Conor is the main character having many nightmares that scare him. He is 13 which means that he's old enough not to tell anyone about his experiences in the nightmares or he feels like he shouldn't tell anyone about them. But Conor is woken up to the old yew tree transforming in front of him into a human-like figure, and Coner does not seem afraid of the yew tree and simply give him sass. But as he does he gets taken away and the old yew tree that has transformed eats him alive but he isn't dead he wakes up to a new day. His mother is a cancer patient so he does most of his things for himself since she is quite tired going through all her treatments and she always mentions the yew tree as if its something important to them, and the yew tree may play a big role in their lives as well maybe not only impacting Coner. The yew tree wats Conor to share his truth as the 4th tale as the yew tree shares his 3 tales. Soon Conor might want something from the yew tree. (Chapters 1-2, end page 18 start of chapter 2)

How has Coner's life experiences impacted him? How does that connect with some of his actions & interactions w/ others? (5+ Sentences)

Conor's life experiences impacted him in mostly a negative way. With his mother having cancer, being bullied at school, having seemingly terrifying nightmares+being constantly reminded of those nightmares, and being unable to see his father since his parents are separated and his father lives in the US connects with his actions and interactions with others especially as well. With his mother having cancer his is sick and weak so Conor may seem himself as a bit more independent than other children because he does many things by himself without needing his mother to help, while he does these things his grandmother tried to stop him then do it herself and that seems to tick him off a bit because he is so used to feeling independent and not having anyone really helping him. And with that, it makes him not like his grandma as much but he ends up living with her as his mother starts to get worse and sicker and to act upon this feeling he gets angry at everything then starts damaging his grandmas things but soon regrets it since he probably doesn't want to be seen as the boys that bully him since they damage him physically and emotionally. Since he sees himself as independent he refuses Lily to help him and gets mad at her for helping then ends their friendship since he does not want help because he doesn't want to be seen as weak so he can be strong for his mother who is weak and sick. His father was also apart of the reason why he acted in such a way damaging his grandmother's stuff because his father did not let him come with him to America so he won't leave him. Since he wants others to see him as strong and independent he never mentions his nightmares because he is afraid that sharing that might make him seem weak and he does not want to be reminded of such things like that. Also as his nightmares inflict trauma on him he is not afraid of the Yew Tree monster that approaches him almost every night since his nightmares may be so scary that not even a real-life monster scares him. As he is not afraid of the monster he gives it sass and shows that he is truly not afraid of the Yew Tree monster at least as a result of his nightmares. His life experiences reflect on how Conor may treat/talk to his grandmother, father, Lily, or the yew tree and impact how his reactions and actions are like towards his bully or other as well.

Why do you think the grandma reacted the way she did? (3-5+ Sentences)

The grandma reacted the way she did because she already had a load of stress on her back already from watching her daughter at the hospital seemingly not getting well. And with seeing her own daughter battle cancer and becoming weak with the treatments not being as effective creates a massive void of sadness and distress within her, and the void also makes her tired of those sad things going on. But to come home to a mess of her valuables broken was probably enough to make that void explode and to let it all out. By letting it all out she screams and cries but doesn't touch or notice Conor at all, and she destroys the last item still standing because she probably felt hopeless since the mess cannot be undone and her daughter is probably not getting better and dying, and she most likely felt hopeless because nothing can be undone in the real world be the same as it was before. With that being, said this could be one of the primary reasons why the grandma reacted that way because of the sadness and stress being put upon her as many things going on in her life.

How is the monster going to help Conor? Why do you think that?

The monster is going to help Conor because as the monster said in the beginning that Conor will soon want something from him, and wanting something from the monster will probably result in the monster helping Conor to get the thing that he wants from the monster. Also with telling the tales of what has happened in the past that the monster has experienced they connect to Conors life and the things that are happening, not in the exact same format but the connections between those two may help him learn or realize some potential solutions that could be solved, or how to get thru things.

And Conor has seemingly terrifying nightmares most nights but has kept it to himself and told no one about his ongoing nightmares. He does many things independently considering that his mother has cancer and the treatments wear her out. Conor is bullied at school after his childhood best friend has told everyone about how his mother has cancer and is now treated differently. Then one night Conor encounters a tree monster that is his Yew tree instead of his nightmares. And the monster will tell Conor 3 tales of his experiences in the past then Conor will have to share the 4th one being his truth and wanting something from the monster soon.

Write 3-5+ Sentence Summary on the Third Tale.

The monster appears to Conor at school (12:07) but he is not asleep the monster is within him and talking. While Harry has stopped bullying Conor and simply treats him like he does not exist, Conor is angry since those actions are like pity and not punishment for him. Conor tries to bring him and everyone to see him while the monster shares a story about a man like Conor who is invisible and unseen by others and how the man has called him to bring him walking to help him to be seen by others. And by sharing that story he does the same actions and tells the story the same way he is doing the actions for Conor. He helps Conor to be seen by causing a huge commotion by beating up Harry and sending him to the hospital, and Conor is finally seen but as the monster says, "But there are harder things than being invisible." And that leaves a lasting impression thinking about now being seen on Conor. And Conor does not receive punishment but is pitied and receives none.

How does each tale embody Conor's experiences? Analyze each individual tale.

In the first tale about the prince murdering his wife and blaming it on the queens "witchery" connects to his grandma since she isn't his favorite, and she might represent the queen in Conor's mind. In the first tale the monster says, "it is not her you need saving from," and that shows how Conor may need to be saved from himself considering her nightmares almost every night but also to the prince because he may need to be saved from himself instead of the queen since he took it in his hands to murder. In the second tale about the apothecary being disliked by many people, then letting the parson's daughter die. And the rage that was experienced by the monster because of the ignorance of the parson at the end of the story, connected to the rage/anger that Conor had within him towards the people in his life giving him pity and using that destruction to get the punishment that Conor deserved instead of pity. In the third tale was about a man who was invisible towards everyone and wanted to be seen so he made himself become seen. And this connects to how everyone doesn't see Conor and simply pities him for the suffering and gets no punishment for not obeying the rules. And as Harry pretends not to see him and to stop bullying him he gets fed up and makes himself to become seen by others like that man in the story, but by beating Harry up in front of everyone.

If you could re-cast/revise ONE character, who would it be? What changes would you make? Why?

I would revise Conor because he seems a little bit hesitant since he wanted to save his mother in the nightmare he didn't come running to her and dragged her away from the cliff and only came running when the ground below was breaking up. And by changing his actions of hesitation in the nightmare can possibly save his mother since he doesn't want to let go and originally he wanted to let her go causing her to die. And his mother would have survived and the yew tree treatment a have worked because Conor didn't want to let her go and wasn't hesitant at all then how he was in the original story.
