But perhaps the most noteworthy environmental damage that the city continues to contribute, its waste disposal practices continue to pollute the surrounding water bodies of the city. While there have been efforts from the local and national government that aid in the city's waste management, there is still too much of the waste that's being deposited on the rivers that line up the city.

Especially in areas along creeks where squatter shanties have occupied, wastes are directly thrown into waterways. These wastes, regardless of their nature (non/biodegradable), continue to contribute in polluting the waters, blocking and/or congesting drainage systems, and in creating potential biohazards for residents.
