at my city college, we had a TA for each class that would hold sessions about twice a week located in the library (tutorial center) with specific hours, but we also had a designated drop-in tutoring area for math subjects. I had worked there while attending the city college, but I am pretty sure you did not have to attend the school in order to apply and get a job there. You just had to go through the application process and you would get monitored while tutoring to see if you knew what you were doing (also had to pass the course at the school). Anyway, I believe that that for one of my psych classes, the TA attended not the city college, but the CSU university in my town. So possibly check out job availabilities for tutoring at city colleges around this area.

I took a research methods course at a CC prior to coming to CSULA. This helped me because it allowed me to think critically, research and developed my writing skills. This gave me the opportunity to develop my research and application skills. This course gave me a brief overview of what a research paper should consist of. It also allowed me to be able to take constructive criticism as we had a lot of peer reviewed drafts. Thus, helping me develop my writing skills.
-Koren

At the college I attended I was part of the NAMI club that help me understand and gave the idea how to understand my major more in depth. So far in this class I’ve learned of the things I need to be more involved.

One of my previous Psychology professors was really great about reaching out and making connections for opportunities for students. He assigned a research project for us to complete and guided us on turning that into a research article. This was great practice for us to get familiar with conducting and reporting research for the future. He ended up sending our articles to a professor at UCSD who works on the undergraduate psychology journal at the school. He reached out to extend all the students in his class to turn our research into research proposal for an opportunity to be published. I feel this will be helpful for getting into graduate school.

Just being able to navigate the PsychNet archives from both Rio Honda and ELAC I was able to know what to look for when searching for articles for my research papers and knowing that that they’re a credible source. Also I have connections with my little brother’s therapists that have helped me with learning about the DSM and there certain causes of traumatized people.
