I'm a New Englander through and through, but currently I'm representing The Outdoor School at Camp Champions, outside of Austin Texas.

I'm eager to share and learn about recruitment, staffing, pay and perks, staff mental health and burnout, student mental health, COVID quarantine aftermath, seasonal work, on-site staff housing, company culture, work life balance, facility sustainability, programming, social media, and so much more.

A little bit about me - I have been in the EE field for over 25 years in various EE centers and outdoor schools around the country, and after a 9-year stint in the North Cascades where I got my M.Ed in Outdoor Science Education/Non-profit Leadership, I came to the Smoky Mountains in 2011 to coordinate programs at Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. In 2020 I became Education Director at Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville, which has allowed me to work more closely with Urban schools in the Urban Wilderness of south Knoxville. My family and I live at the foot of the Smoky Mountains, and I enjoy beer-making, fly-fishing, gardening, lifting rocks and cabers (highland games style), and practicing art and homesteading skills in my free time

RELC's and other conferences with ANCA have always been a formative and nurturing place for me as a new leader in EE, and as I have and continue to develop my teaching, managing, and administration skills. I am looking forward to first connecting to you all and the beautiful place in Saco, ME, and then gathering together to share ideas, struggles, and new accomplishments and strategies other EE professionals have been working through at their centers. Most specifically - mental health of staff/staff development, DEI work and struggles, emergent pedagogy, EE for littles (3-6 years), farm and community science programming, fundraising/membership, and district-wide school and teacher programs.

I have an Environmental Science degree. I am a renaissance woman within the field, having done everything from recycling in PA, to chemical management in ME, to standing for the rights of women and children at an international level, to garden education in HI, and forest tours in AK. Gardening through it all, composting, food security, and garden education seems to be where I've landed.


I hope that spending time with all of you will help me to determine my next steps and solidify my path forward.
