When Broward county got it's first cases, I still believed it could never be me or my family who got it. Around that time, many stated that it was no worse than the flu, and even if I had never had the flu, I was not worried. I still remember sitting in the auditorium, laughing with my friends at the end of immigration day, which shortly after Mrs. Conn announced to us that school would be shutting down. I remember being happy, “an extra week for spring break” I thought, “awesome.” Yet, even after that here I am, stuck at home almost 14 months after that announcement. Since then, time has been a blur and nothing feels real anymore. Sport seasons were canceled and I stopped playing soccer and only recently have been able to play lacrosse again. I would lay in my bed while doing my work and mercy was still well and alive. If I could talk to past me, I would tell her to hang on to the moment, because at the time all I wanted was to be able to leave my house. Now I sit infront of a computer for 8-10 hours a day doing nothing but school work and I find it difficult to find time to do much else, expect for the weekends, which no longer feel like weekends. Weekends seem to feel shorter and shorter as I try and get as much as I pushed off during the week due to being too tired or having no motivation, into two days. I cannot wait for summer to come and for my hair to be blonde once again. Throughout the last year, I have been blonde 5 seperate times, have dyed my hair purple, pink, purple again and blue before returning to a dark brown back in January. Through this, I started to make my 3 closest friends, which none of them live near me. One lives in Virginia, another in Colorado and the farthest away is in Australia. I wish the United States could be more like other countries so we could stop having to wear masks everywhere. Due to COIVD, we were unable to travel. Furthermore, I was unable to see my grandparents for a period of time before the vaccine. It is just recently that me and my family have been trying to get a resemblance of our lives before the pandemic, such as playing sports and going shopping in person. Due to my parents, grandparents and almost both of my brothers being fully vaccinated, O am the only one who has to worry about getting COVID or spreading COVID within my immediate family, and even then I am hoping the vaccine for my age group is released soon enough. Although, I have to say I am not excited to be receiving two shots. (I am not a fan of needles.) Such as getting back to normal life, today (May 3rd) I returned to in person school for the first time.
