  • A good portion of offenders returning to jail after being released is due to violating their parole (Pew Center, 2011). 
    • Whether they missed it because of a job or a lack of resources, these people need more support and flexibility.
  • Being a former criminal can have a heavy emotional toll. Offenders are dehumanized for crimes that may be petty or easily fixable.
    • They get basic human rights taken away even after they spent years in jail getting them taken away.

    • Ex-felons are not allowed the right to vote
    • In certain places, counties can ban criminals from food benefits
    • Criminals are not able to serve on a jury
    • In a county in Florida, they aren't allowed weatherization for their windows and doors
    • In Mississippi, they cannot become alligator ranchers
    • They lose their right to bear arms
    • Anyone who commits a felony, no matter the case or circumstances, has a difficulty finding a job.
