According to the scale a woman is heavier than a lot of expensive materiels. this scale reflect the image of a woman in India. they are more expensive than a lot of cost things  because of the dowry system. When those woman will get married their families will have to give to the grooms families, quality meals and presents but also they will have a huge wedding party wich cost a big amount of money. So in India for many people and specially the poor family a woman is a burden.
Consequently the number of girls drop since 1961 in Indian families, as we can see on the chart. the number of girls aged 0 to 6 years were around 975 girls for 1000  boys in 1961 whereas there were only about 910 girls in 2011.
