If people violated the payments for the taxes judges would decide whether or not they get fined or get in trouble for their decisions. With these new taxes it helped inforce the colonists economy, because back then the economy was very poor and not very successful. The sugar act also made the British pay for smuggling, all the colonies had to be a part of the sugar act, this was also used for finding out colonial trades, other colonists had to pay others in debt, which is where you owe someone or a group of people. The sugar act was also the first tax on American colonies imposed by the British Parliament. The British wanted everyone to go under their rules so if someone were to disobey then they would be basically committing a crime ( to the british’s rules .)
