1. WHAT I KNEW ABOUT ARCHITECTURE

From what I know before discussing architecture in class, it was the process of planning and constructing infrastructures, it was the course for people who want to design buildings that came from their ideas and imagination and to bring into reality. I thought that architecture was to make a buildings, houses or different kind of structure fit for its means. It was suppose to made for its purpose and represent that purpose.

After having learning more about Architecture during our subject, it made me realize that all the buildings was not just made for its purpose,, it was more than just a purpose of building it. There were lectures, Organic Architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling water , that talked about architecture wasn't just made for its purpose, it was also made for beauty, design, and to be appreciated.

Further topics that were discussed in the Architecture was the Pantheon in Acropolis. I thought the Greeks just built the structure just to be able to create a temple for their gods. I thought the builders just created pillars just to make it look cool. But what I learned was that this kind of architecture has a lot of characteristics. I did not know that the pillars had a lot of types, like the Doric, ionic type or even its top part has functions and designs

Overall architecture is not just the reason of building a structure but also to be appreciated. Thus, every part in a structure has its own reason and own characteristics.

I would like to know more about art in terms of urban planning, or urban development. How it could be used and more appreciated here in our. Due to the lack or urban planning I think the best way it could be used is to understand it with the use of art and how to appreciate urban planning architecture.

4/23/19

Interpretation of the Artwork:

The Shrouded Figure was created by Sandra Torrijos in 1991 and is located at the Metro Politan Museum of Manila Collection.

What made this sculpture really interesting from the other works I saw during my visit was how well the material showed the figure of the sculpture. The sculpture was made using latex, which shows a figure, possibly a woman whose right hand is covering her face and left arm extending backwards.

The sculpture shows that the woman is ashamed of herself or embarrassed as the light, presenting the figure, is directly pointing at her, that show how detailed lines are. of what the woman is wearing. Which give a view that she is ashamed of her clothes, which look old and rugged.

Overall the latex that was used on the sculptured shows the detailed texture as it emphasizes the figure of the woman. As she is covered with latex it can show that its wrapping itself around that, which shows her body shape it not in good form, as if her shame is enclosing on her.

Reference:
Metropolitan Museum of Manila (2019) April 16.
