Title: Drawing the world around you through sound

Question: how can we include sound within early childhood education, that allows children to think deeper into there sense and there world around them.

Documenters name : Briana Gocev

Teachers name: Rachael Barahona

The age group intended for this activity will be for 3-5 years old, period and time on the 18th of November 2019.

For this activity 3 students will pick a quiet place outside to sit, sand or laydown, students will also be given a piece of paper as well as something to draw on, while sitting or standing students will then proceed to close their eyes and draw what they hear, the purpose of this activity is for students to solely focuses on the sound that is around them, in order to hear sounds that they normally wouldn’t pay attention to such as leaves, sticks cracking or falling , animal noises etc, this also focuses for students to relax and open their mind to the world around them.

Such as in the game parallaxis mentions how we should focuses on the little things in life and find a new way to experience the environment around us, I feel like this activity really supports my micro teaching in a way that sends the same message in a creative way, through drawing students can become creative and truly express themselves.

Related previous experience that have inspired me to do this activity are encounters with children and their imagination within art class at my placement, children would draw and use there imagination to draw a specific thing whether it was waves in the ocean, or how a particular animal walks or looks like.

Artefacts:

Through my learning process within placement, I gathered artefacts such as art activities that allow children to express them selves, through this I wanted to show case how children can interpret sound in a different way through different experiences, by using the sounds of their suroundings and there ability to draw I cam to the idea of combining these activities together.

Through my activity where children will ‘draw what they hear’ enable children to really express what they hear, weather its hearning music or sounds that are around them, children will be able to document and be creative in the process.

Another artifact that inspired me is the previous assessment where we had to play the game parallaxis and fully emerse ourselves within the world around us, by hearing sounds around us really inspired me to incoporrate the use of nature/sound and place the activity outdoors.

Interpretation/analysis

Through documentation, I was able to plan for future learning experiences easier, as it allow me to observe, reflect and modify different parts of the experiences that we think will or will not work with the children in our ‘classroom’.

This can also help us as future educators reflect on ourselves and how we can improve myself through these experiences/activities, and how the way I teach. Through reflection and documentation can also allow me to figure out how we can assist and support children through there different learning styles.

For my first activity of my micro teaching, I think I was mostly excited about planning my activity as I wanted to incoporrate different materials, although I found it a bit difficult at first, as I wanted to do something different from the rest of my group, as well as something that would interest children.

Through my thinking process and coming to the conclusion on what I needed to focus which was sound, which was a inspiring process.

I also enjoyed the fact that during discussions when presenting, the children would respond to my questions and towards my activity, which also allowed me to have feedback and also gave me an insight towards the activity.

I found this activity worked really well as was quite engaging for the children, I that after activity I also provided time for students to explain what they heard and drew, which gave me some input as to what they were thinking, as well as how I could improve my other activities, where through there reactions allowed me also to take insight and take the lesson further and modify the next class to help further thinking, and for students to really gain an understanding of the world around them

After the first micro teaching I was able to show my potential as a future educator and see areas in where I could improve on, by doing reach and reading in class content, as well as previous experiences of placement allowed me to be more creative, and show children driven ideas, therefor through documenting and reflection really helped me a lot as u could go back and modify certain parts of my future activities, though this I believe that my own teaching philosophy as developed further by looking into a deeper lens by helping children look at the world differently, and being present within the moment.

Title - dancing with streamers

Question: how can we as early childhood educators help young children with social interaction and communication through movement.

Documenters name : Rachel Fowler

Teachers name: Rachael Barahona

Materials used: streamers, pipe cleaners, outdoors

The age group intended for this activity will be for 3-5 years old, period and time on the 18th of November 2019. For this activity each child will have there own streamers as part of the activity.

Students will using streamers in order for it to flow in the wind through movement and music, children will have fun moving to the beat followed by streamers, this will add a different dimension towards movement as the streamers wrap around their hands and body, while also swaying in the wind.

The purpose of this learning experience if for students to really interact with the activity and show movements and how movements can be interpreted in many different ways, for this instance using streamers in order to see movement and by imputing movements from your body, students can interact and make movements with the influence of their surrounding and themselves. Other than this, students can also interact with other students and have fun with it through manipulation of their bodily movements and motor skills.

Details in order to support my micro teaching is the form of recapitulation, where a musical movement that is concerned with the way ‘ you arrange music, relating to form and structure, through this by I also gained inspiration and furthered my knowledge with Linsey Pollak ted talk where he talks about how movement can be incorporated with sound, he also believes that ‘’ music is a beautiful analogy for the world around us’’, ‘’where everyone can play and instrument’’, where I believe is true and important to acknowledge that movement is incorporated sound and every important in a learning setting.

Previous activities that have inspired me as well as artefacts that I have gathered through out my placement, that I found helpful when planning my experience was Definitely a certain experience that I had encountered in my kinder class where students would create bubbles by blowing or creating movements through there body in order to create bubbles, students would them watch as the bubbles float and chase them. through this activity in what sparked my inspiration to used materials such as streamers in grasp their attention and using the movement of the wind and their environment to play a role in this activity.

Another artefact that helped me through my interpretations was the experience I had outdoors, just as previously said in activity 1, by incorporating the movement of the trees, wind and animals influenced we also acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and teach children the history while embracing the natural materials that are around us, and including it within my activity.

Where children can acknowledge the environment around them, while learning outdoors in a different space

Through my interpretation and analysis of this activity I was able to plan better and more creatively, as through feedback of my previous activity I was able to also reflect and modify on different parts of how I presented and manipulated the activity itself, thinking based on how I wanted to grasp children’s attention on this activity, through streamers and colours I was able to acknowledge and present to this.

As a future educator I think what was prominent in making my activities more engaging and well presented would be the documentation and how it shaped future learning and how it is presented.

What was exciting was the presenting part and actually bringing my thoughts and my activity to life, as soon as I allowed my students to demonstrate and show how this activity worked, I was very happy with the outcome, to see it come to life through bodily movements and through the manipulation of the weather around us I found it surprisingly and exciting on how well it turned out to be.

In discussion of how I wanted to further my thinking, I wanted to show again my potential as a future educator and see how creative I can be while using natural elements that can be found around us, The Involvement streamers and using movement from the body and movement from wind, while also having my activity Bring social interaction and communication through group work and involving an outdoor activity where students can communicate with each other and can learn from each other by having fun.

I think through this enabling my activity to help students move more while communicating through different perspective of language such as language through sound and movement has really allowed me to open my eyes as a future educator to reflect and looking in depth and how one specific activity can help other learning areas for children.

8Title - what does the dice say?

Question: how can we as future educators promote imagination and creative play through physical and non physical environments

Documenters name : Rachael Fowler

Teachers name: Rachael Barahona

Materials used: cardboard box, textures

The age group intended for this activity will be for 3 to 5-year-olds, period of time on 18 November 2019. The aim for this activities for students to roll the dice and proceed to the action of sound that is required to do, once The Child proceeds to do what dies asked of them they can give it to the next player.

The purpose of learning is for students to find natural materials, for example when the dice asks for them to search for something green students can go and find a leaf, grass, flour etc. Students also apply movements and actions of the dice rolls on, this very thinking help students have fun and tap into the curiosity or playing a game outdoors.

Students will learn from each other and communicate with each other as well as promote imagination and creative play through physical and nonphysical environments.

In making this activity my inspiration by looking at the past experiences such as activity one and activity two Where for this activity I would incorporate drama, and a more student driven activity where students are given the freedom to express and create something from their imaginative thoughts ( such as acting like lion) .

I also gain inspiration from the Game parallax where students can tap into the non-physical environment where students can have the freedom of imaginative play and create a different experience for them. I think my main inspiration for all three activities was definitely the outdoor area where students can be surrounded by trees and The natural environment rather than being inside a classroom which at times can be boring and have a feeling of claustrophobic, hence why I’m being in a space where students are free to move around and experiment As experienced in placement with students were free to roam around outdoors

How I developed my interpretations of the learning process and finding myself different types of inspirations as Previously said mean inspiration of mine was that nature its self such as sounds that can be heard around us, nature such as plants and physical things that can be found as well as The freedom and space that placement provides for children, as I experienced in the class where students are free to Imagine And create different things and are allowed the freedom to play through physical items or non-physical items such as dancing with the wind, meditation, yoga, and drawing.

For my final activity I thought that this activity should be more involved with the movement and imaginative play, hence why All these different types of inspirations that I had in my head I came to the conclusion to create a dice questions were able to act, find things, re-create sounds and bodily movements. I think will also help me through this process was the making of the documentation and how when thinking of my final product,

having activities that I’ve done in the Reflect on and help me modify this activity really helped me a lot and open my eyes to the broader issue.

I was excited of the outcome of the activity as well as as the outcome, due to the fact that it was something different that I have presented and creative, I was also happy of how the students interacted with the game and really saw how students answered the questions on the dice and created imaginative play within the game.

Move my thinking further as an educator would be in having documentation to look back on and writing notes in order to really reflect on how you could improve certain activities or and on in order to create the final outcome to be better.

Is my final micro teaching I was able to show the broader issues in teaching and how by relating class content with my activities I was able to express and guide my activity further, For me I think it’s important for students to have a learning space where students can be free and be open to express themselves and I think that’s why I chose the outdoor areas or natural environments, by being in a space where students are able to move and really connect with you and around them really great so different and special bond with outer worldly experiences, students can enjoy themselves through learning and whether it is through sound, movement or drama.
