Model UN simulates a small-sized Model United Nations Conference, where participants are the young people playing the role of delegates of certain countries, working together to come up with solutions for the topic/issue provided.

This is to provide opportunity for the young to experience, to learn and to have responsibility for their own choice, and to have a broader view about the position of each country in the world on one specific global issue. By SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF their COUNTRY, delegate will need to have understanding on the issue in the country in order to: 1) speak up why his/her country chose so, 2) if not personally support the policy, they can present the drawback and discuss with other candidates to come up with a better solution. By actively participating in this activity, it will help the young to improve their critical thinking and communication skills as well.

Topic suggested is Climate Change. 

Check out the list of 22 listed by United Nations here: “Global Issues”. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list. Rather, it serves as an overview of some of the major issues all global citizens should be aware of.

Here are the examples of the type of Committees you might set up:

 + 1 GLOBERS volunteer: runs the workshop in general. Select the facilitator to work with you, he/she will be the Chairman who oversees the work of the steering committee(s) and makes basic decisions about the duration of the conference, the Rules of Procedure that will be used, etc. 

+ 1 Facilitator: plays the role of the Chairman 

- Programme Committee that drafts a Programme for the conference

- Communications Committee that develops a communication strategy

- Logistics Committee that proposes a venue, takes care of housing and transportation for participants, manages the registration process, and financing issues.

* Notes: depending on whether human resources are available or not, if it is difficult to have more members in the team to work with you to form different recommended Committees, you can consider recruiting volunteers who want to join in organizing the workshop with you.

The number of officials will depend in part on the size of the conference.  
This is the structure for General Assembly and Secretariat officials recommended:

President of the General Assembly (PGA)

Vice-Presidents (this will depend on the size but it would be ideal to have at least one VP from each regional group)

Chair (one per Committee)

Vice-Chair (up to 3 per Committee depending on the size of the conference)

Rapporteur (one per Committee)

Secretary-General

Secretary (one per Committee, perhaps the most important position on the Bureau, the Secretary is responsible for advising the Chair on matters dealing with the Rules of Procedure, providing scripts of what the Chair needs to say during each Committee meeting, liaising with delegates regarding requests to be put on the Speaker’s List, tabling resolutions and amendments, etc.)

Other positions can be added depending on what makes most sense given the content of the conference.

Registration process: 

- Select young people who have enthusiasm and desire to be the change they want to see, and have the willingness to act. 

- The registration form: show the description of the workshop, the register is required to send a video filming his/herself speaking about: why they want to join, and share about the country they want to represent.

-  Orientation: provide materials, make sure they understand about the program and their role.
