--- Think about how it might feel to be far from home, out of contact with friends and family, and thinking about them.

--- How do you feel about the physical weight of the things you have carried. Which seems heavier? Physical or emotional baggage?

--- Think about what you carry in your backpacks everyday.

--- What do you physically and emotionally carry everyday?

--- How do the things you carry impact your mood, performance in school, and relationships in and out of school?

1. Take a photo of your backpack from an interesting angle that you will be turning into a weighted contour drawing.  

2. Open up the Sketchbook app & import your backpack photograph. Adjust the image you will be drawing so it fills your page. Also make sure you have some interesting negative space around the backpack. 

3. Add another layer on top of your image in the Sketchbook app and draw your weighted contour line on this new layer.

4. After your contour line in sketchbook is finished, hide the photograph so it is not distracting and draw your weighted contour line onto your project paper. It will not be exactly the same, but this is OK!

5. After your contour line is drawn on paper, we will be adding words that describe 'what you are carrying' onto this. See the student examples!

This is a fast 5 minute draw per hand. Draw a hand 3 times in 3 different positions.

Consider: How was the first hand you drew different from the last one?

When your lines have been drawn, put the blue glove on and look at how the lines change from straight to curving.

Draw the curved contour lines you see on the glove to describe the surface of your hand.
