On 15th August, I attended my first usrah lesson, which discussed two meaningful topics: the Al-Qur’an as the guidance in life and adab in seeking knowledge. The Qur’an is not only a holy book but also a complete manual for life, guiding Muslims in matters of faith, worship, morality, relationships, and daily decisions. It is described as a light that removes us from darkness and a compass that directs us towards righteousness and success in this world and the Hereafter. As Muslims, it is our duty to read, understand, and practice the teachings of the Qur’an so that it becomes a source of strength and guidance in our lives. Alongside that, seeking knowledge requires proper adab, such as having sincerity by learning for the sake of Allah, respecting teachers, showing humility and patience, being consistent in learning, and most importantly, practicing what we have learned. During the usrah, I also worked together with my group members through discussions, sharing reflections, and exchanging ideas, which helped me strengthen my understanding of the topics and learn from different perspectives. One of the ideas that I contributed was the importance of always respecting teachers, especially by answering their questions properly, as this not only helps the teacher but also shows our manners as students. These collaborations taught me the value of teamwork, respect, and collective learning, making the session more meaningful and impactful. From this usrah, I reflected on the importance of always holding firmly to the Qur’an as my main source of guidance, while also striving to observe good manners in learning so that the knowledge I gain will be meaningful, beneficial, and pleasing to Allah.

In our second usrah, we studied Hadith Jibril, where Angel Jibril appeared in human form and asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about Islam, Iman, Ihsan, and the signs of the Hour. The Prophet explained that Islam is the five pillars: shahadah, prayer, zakat, fasting Ramadan, and hajj. Iman is belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree. Ihsan means worshipping Allah as though we see Him, and if not, knowing that He always sees us. Finally, the Prophet mentioned some signs of the Hour, including a slave woman giving birth to her mistress and the poor shepherds competing in tall buildings. During the usrah, I contributed ideas by suggesting that the hadith could be understood in three layers of religion: Islam, Iman, and Ihsan, which made it clearer for discussion. I also gave the example of Ihsan in sports and teamwork, where we give full effort and discipline even when no one is watching, because just like in worship, Allah is always aware of us. I also helped explain the signs of the Hour in simpler terms so the group could reflect more deeply. The main lesson I gained is that Islam is a complete way of life combining belief, action, and excellence. This usrah reminded me that just as in rugby or football, balance, teamwork, and discipline are keys to success, in religion we must also balance Iman, Islam, and Ihsan to be true servants of Allah.

USRAH 3: THE FIRST 3 PILLARS OF ISLAM

In our third usrah, we focused on the first three pillars of Iman: belief in Allah, His angels, and His books, which are the foundation of a Muslim’s faith. We began with belief in Allah, acknowledging Him as the only God, the Creator, and the One who controls everything in existence. Then we discussed belief in angels, who are unseen beings created from light, always obedient to Allah, and responsible for carrying out His commands such as delivering revelation and recording human deeds, reminding us that nothing we do is hidden. After that, we reflected on belief in the books of Allah, which include the Qur’an, Injil, Taurat, and Zabur, with the Qur’an as the final and preserved revelation, serving as the ultimate guidance for life, directing us in matters of faith, morality, and daily living. During this usrah, I contributed by suggesting that each pillar be explained with simple and clear examples, and I helped summarize the discussion so everyone could reflect more deeply. From this usrah, I learned that the first three pillars of Iman are not just beliefs to memorize, but living principles that guide us to recognize Allah’s greatness, remain mindful of His angels, and follow the Qur’an as our true source of guidance in life.

USRAH 4 : BELIEFS IN PROPHETS / DAY OF JUDGEMENT / QADA AND QADR

In our fourth usrah, we focused on the pillars of Iman specifically on belief in prophets, the Day of Judgement, and Qada’ and Qadar, and reflected on how these strengthen our faith as Muslims. We learned that belief in prophets reminds us that Allah sent them as guides, with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as the final messenger whose life serves as the best example to follow. Belief in the Day of Judgement makes us conscious that every deed will be accounted for, encouraging us to seek forgiveness, strive in good deeds, and prepare for the eternal life ahead. Belief in Qada’ and Qadar, meanwhile, teaches us patience in trials, gratitude for blessings, and reliance on Allah while still putting in effort. During the session, my group and I collaborated by volunteering to answer questions and sharing reflections, such as how belief in prophets inspires us to spread good values, how the Day of Judgement influences our daily choices, and how Qada’ and Qadar help us face challenges like exams with calmness and tawakkul. Through these discussions, we realized that these beliefs are not only to be memorized but to be lived as guiding principles in shaping our character and strengthening our iman with the Qur’an and Sunnah as our ultimate guidance.

USRAH 5 : IHSAN AND ISLAMIC ESCHATOLOGY

In our last Usrah Meet on the topic of Ihsan and Islamic eschatology, we reflected on how these concepts guide both our inner state and outward actions. Ihsan, which means worshipping Allah as though we see Him, taught us to put sincerity and excellence in every aspect of life—for example, praying with full concentration, studying with the intention of seeking Allah’s pleasure, being honest in exams, showing kindness to friends, and even helping our family at home with patience. On the other hand, learning about Islamic eschatology—from the stages of death, life in the grave (Barzakh), resurrection, to the final judgement—reminded us that this world is temporary and that every deed will be weighed, whether big or small. This makes us more mindful of daily actions such as avoiding gossip, managing our time wisely, and using social media responsibly, since all will be accounted for. During this usrah, my group and I collaborated by volunteering to answer questions and sharing reflections; for instance, we discussed how remembering the hereafter motivates us to control anger in conflicts, show forgiveness to others, and strive to balance between academics and ibadah. Our teamwork made the session more engaging and practical, as we connected the lessons of ihsan and eschatology to real-life challenges as students. In conclusion, this usrah strengthened our awareness that striving for ihsan and preparing for the hereafter are lifelong goals that shape our faith, actions, and character.

USRAH 6 : ADAB WITH PARENTS

In this usrah session, I learned about the importance of adab (manners) and respect towards our parents, which is one of the greatest teachings in Islam. Allah SWT commands in the Qur’an, “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents” (Surah Al-Isra’, 17:23). This verse shows that honoring our parents is placed right after the worship of Allah, showing its high status in Islam. We discussed the different ways to show adab to our parents such as speaking politely, obeying them in good matters, helping them sincerely, and making du’a for them always. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Paradise lies under the feet of mothers,” reminding us of our duty to love and serve our parents with full respect and patience. During the group discussion, my usrah members and I shared examples from our own experiences at home, such as helping our mothers with household chores, listening attentively to our fathers’ advice, and avoiding raising our voices when speaking to them. Together, we reflected on how simple acts of kindness can bring great rewards from Allah. From this usrah, I realized that good manners with parents are not just actions but also sincerity from the heart. It inspired me to improve my relationship with my parents through love, gratitude, and prayers, as these are among the keys to Allah’s pleasure and blessings.

In the early of the second semester, I attended my first usrah lesson, which focused on the topic of the acquisition of hikmah. Hikmah refers to wisdom granted by Allah that helps a person make correct decisions and act in the best manner. It is not only about having knowledge, but also about applying that knowledge wisely in daily life. Through this usrah, I learned that hikmah can be gained by strengthening our relationship with Allah, reflecting on the Qur’an and Sunnah, being patient, and learning from experiences and advice from others. A person who possesses hikmah is able to think carefully, control emotions, and act justly in various situations. During the usrah session, I worked together with my group members through discussions and sharing ideas, which helped me understand the topic more clearly. One idea that I contributed was the importance of thinking before speaking or acting, as this reflects wisdom and good character. This collaboration taught me the value of teamwork and mutual respect. From this usrah, I reflected on the importance of striving to acquire hikmah so that my actions and decisions will be beneficial, meaningful, and pleasing to Allah.

In my second usrah session, I attended an usrah lesson that focused on the topic of the reasons and sources of hikmah from ibadah. I learned that ibadah is one of the main ways through which Allah grants hikmah to His servants, as it purifies the heart and guides a person’s thoughts and actions. Acts of worship such as salah, fasting, recitation of the Qur’an, and remembrance of Allah help develop important qualities like sincerity, discipline, patience, and self-control. These qualities enable a person to apply knowledge wisely and make decisions that are correct and beneficial in daily life. During the usrah session, I worked together with my group members through discussions and sharing reflections, which helped me better understand how ibadah shapes wisdom in a person. One idea that I contributed was that consistent ibadah reminds us of our responsibility and accountability to Allah, which encourages us to think carefully before speaking or acting. This collaboration taught me the value of teamwork and mutual respect. From this usrah, I reflected that performing ibadah sincerely and consistently is not only an obligation, but also an important source of hikmah that guides my actions, decisions, and character so that my life will be meaningful, beneficial, and pleasing to Allah.

In my third usrah session I attended my usrah session, which focused on the topic of preparation for salah with khushu’. Khushu’ refers to a state of humility, concentration, and sincerity of the heart during prayer. Through this usrah, I learned that khushu’ does not come instantly, but requires proper preparation before performing salah. This includes having sincere intention, performing wudu’ properly, choosing a clean and calm place for prayer, dressing modestly, and being mindful of the presence of Allah before starting the salah. When a person prepares well, it becomes easier to focus and feel closeness to Allah during prayer. During the usrah, we also discussed the importance of understanding the meanings of the recitations in salah, as this helps increase concentration and awareness while praying. I worked together with my group members through discussions and sharing reflections, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of how to improve khushu’ in daily prayers. One idea that I contributed was the importance of avoiding distractions, such as rushing into prayer or thinking about worldly matters, so that we can pray with a calm heart and focused mind. This collaboration taught me the value of teamwork and shared learning. From this usrah, I reflected on the importance of preparing myself properly before every salah so that my prayers will be performed with khushu’, sincerity, and humility, and will be more meaningful and pleasing to Allah.

USRAH 4 : VIRTUES OF SALAH WITH KHUSHU

In my fourth usrah session , we focused on discussed the virtues of salah and the importance of performing it with khushu’. Salah is the most important act of worship in Islam, serving as a direct connection between a Muslim and Allah. Performing salah with khushu’, which means full concentration, humility, and mindfulness, makes the prayer more meaningful and spiritually rewarding. Through the lesson, I learned that khushu’ involves focusing on the words and actions of salah, feeling humility before Allah, controlling distractions, and being sincere in our worship. A person who prays with khushu’ gains inner peace, closeness to Allah, forgiveness of sins, and strength to resist wrongdoing in daily life. During the usrah, I actively participated in group discussions, sharing reflections, and learning from my friends’ experiences in maintaining khushu’ during prayer. One of the points I contributed was the importance of preparing for salah by performing wudu properly, facing the qiblah with focus, and mentally detaching from worldly concerns. These discussions helped me understand that khushu’ is not just physical presence but also mental and spiritual engagement. From this usrah, I reflected on the need to strive for khushu’ in every prayer so that my salah becomes a source of guidance, tranquility, and closeness to Allah, while cultivating patience, humility, and sincerity in all aspects of life.

USRAH 5 : FASTING AND ITS VIRTUES

In my fifth usrah session, I attended an usrah lesson, which focused on the topic of fasting and its virtues. Fasting, especially during Ramadan, is not only an act of worship but also a means to develop self-discipline, patience, and taqwa (consciousness of Allah). Through fasting, we learn to control our desires, avoid sinful behavior, and strengthen our connection with Allah. It is described as a shield that protects us from wrongdoing and a source of spiritual purification that brings us closer to Allah. Fasting also teaches empathy, as we remember the struggles of those who are less fortunate, inspiring us to be more compassionate and generous in our daily lives. During the usrah, we discussed the virtues of fasting, including the immense rewards promised by Allah, the cleansing of the soul, and the opportunity to increase good deeds. I also worked together with my group members by sharing reflections and personal experiences, which helped me appreciate different perspectives on the topic. One of the ideas I contributed was the importance of maintaining good character and patience while fasting, as controlling our speech and behavior is a key part of the fast. This collaboration taught me the value of teamwork, discussion, and learning from one another.

USRAH 6 : ZAKAH AND SADAQAH

On the last usrah session, I attended my usrah lesson, which focused on the topic of zakah and sadaqah. Zakah is an obligatory act of worship that purifies wealth and helps those in need, while sadaqah is a voluntary charity that reflects kindness, generosity, and compassion. Through this usrah, I learned that both zakah and sadaqah play an important role in strengthening social justice, reducing poverty, and building a caring and responsible Muslim community. They remind us that wealth is a trust from Allah and should be shared with others in the right way. During the usrah session, I worked together with my group members through discussions and sharing ideas, which helped me understand the topic more clearly. One idea that I contributed was that giving charity does not always have to be in the form of money, as helping others through good actions, time, and effort can also be considered sadaqah. This collaboration taught me the value of teamwork and empathy. From this usrah, I reflected on the importance of fulfilling zakah and practicing sadaqah sincerely so that my wealth and actions will be beneficial to others and pleasing to Allah.
