Preface: As a Black woman, my project is centering the Black identity. However, I would like this to be a space for an exploration of identity, even if it is not a Black one! So, when I bring these questions to the table if you feel like your lived experiences relate in another way (culturally, gender and sexuality-rooted identities, socioeconomically, etc.) feel free to speak up and share!

1. Going around the room and stating what country you're from/in what word what "race" means to you?
2. There is not a French equivalent for the word "Blackness", a single encapsulating word for the social and cultural experience of Black people in the country. I'm new to this program and to Paris so for those who have been here longer, what about French culture makes this the case in your opinion?
3. Blackness in America has as much to do with trauma as it does with the positive results of Black culture, from music to clothing and slang, etc. Is there space for that in a country with a much different racial history than that of the united states? must there be?

Idea behind it:
- the idea of art as a means of expression is something I'm interested in, especially as a way to deal with overcoming or healing from trauma. home is something that may evoke complicated feelings in our beneficiaries and i want this dance to be a way to explore their home for all the good, not just the dangers or reasons they had to flee.
rehearsal schedule:
Saturday May 28th 12:15pm-1pm: Meet with interested participants and discuss ideas for music
(for Faith) Sunday May 29th: Find/mix music, make groupchat for interested participants
weekly layout
Friday June 3rd 12:15-1:30pm: First rehearsal
Saturday June 4th 12:15-1:30: second rehearsal
.... for all weeks plus one additional rehearsal on wednesday june 20th plus collection of colored t-shirts with everyone's names labelled

things I would need:
- t-shirts in the same color/color scheme
- a number of people willing to commit to rehearsal schedule
- at least one large speaker

alternative #1- training long-term members for a lasting arts program

I co-founded an arts camp with my aunt, Dr. Adrianna Marshall. I was co-director and dance instructor, and she was the director and head of the stringed instruments program. The camp was centered around women's empowerment and bringing the arts to girls without access. I gained experience in coordination with speakers as well as teaching experience, which led to my working at a sleepaway camp for 8 weeks as a counselor and dance instructor for girls between the ages of 6-15. While I am only in Paris for 6 weeks, I would love to train interested long-term volunteers in a program that could lead to a lasting arts initiative with Serve the City. I can work with people in establishing a plan for choreographing routines as well as working with different age groups through workshops, and coordinate with my aunt to discuss plans for grant-writing as well as working with other NGOs in the city to fund things like instruments and dance shoes. I can also discuss ways to ensure longevity of the program such as social media outreach, coordination with people without consistent access to phones or transportation, etc.

things I would need:
- access to zoom pro account
