And noncompliance can result in torture or prison. This is because most of the Uyghur people are Muslim. Thus, they wanted to change their perspective to forced communist ideology. This process often separates children from their families, and treatment of the Uyghur people is usually violent, hostile, and inhumane.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has decided that the abuses against Uyghurs “may constitute crimes against humanity.” Human rights violations remain pervasive, including persecution on cultural and religious grounds, arbitrary arrests and the silencing of peaceful dissent.

Those Uyghur Asylum seekers fled from that region mostly to Turkey to get a better living.

Meanwhile, another 170 Uyghur women and children were allowed to proceed to Turkey, their original planned destination. Subsequently, Thailand detained the remaining group, approximately 50 men, in overcrowded immigration detention centers characterized by poor living conditions. These individuals are treated by authorities as unauthorized immigrants, devoid of any rights.

Numerous immigration detention facilities in Thailand suffer from extreme overcrowding, insufficient food provisions, inadequate ventilation, and a lack of medical services and essential supplies. Detainees are confined to cramped cells that resemble cages, offering minimal space to sit, let alone sleep. It is common for children to be detained alongside adults.

“Thai authorities are putting people seeking refugee protection at grave risk by keeping them for years in awful conditions in immigration detention centers,” said Elaine Pearson, Asia director at Human Rights Watch.
