Voltaire believed that we should have a free and liberal society. This means that we have rights in the community and government . He also believed in freedom of religion and free commerce. This means we shouldn't be judged by our religion. Some of his quotes were, "A witty saying proves nothing." and “All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.” Voltaire also praised Hinduism, he thought Hindus were peaceful and innocent people.

How Does This Thinker Influence the U.S. Government

I think Voltaire influenced the government by writing about freedom and religion. We are a free country to this day and that may be because of the enlightenment thinkers including Voltaire. Voltaire believed that we should have more rights as a community and in our government. Now we get to vote. Without people like these thinkers we might not have the country we have. This is why I think Voltaire influenced not only the government but the people.

My thinker was Thomas Paine. Thomas wanted freedom for America and he wanted independence. He believed that everyone should be free. Voltaire believed in the same idea. He believed that people should be free in society, have rights in the community and freedom in religion. Voltaire's praises go to people who are peaceful and innocent. He probably wouldn't like violence, bloodshed and killing people since he was peaceful. Thomas Paine's idea of independence lead to the Revolutionary war.
Both thinkers believed in freedom but they might have a different ways of achieving it. Voltaire might want to protest without violence like Martin Luther King Jr. did,
