         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sunk on April 20,2010. 87 day after the explosion around 3.19 million barrels of oil had leaked into the gulf of Mexico. Point source because it came from one rig. The oil spilled affected all marine life and even the coral reefs. The deaths of these animals increased dramatically. The pollution was cleaned up by dispersants.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On March 24,1989 in Alaska the Exxon Valdez Tanker struck a reef and tore open the ships haul. 11 million gallons of crude oil was spilled. This is point source because it came from one ship. The cleanup worker skimmed the oil from the waters surface and sprayed oil dispersants in the water and on the shores.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Two water supplies on the Marine Corps base camp Lejeune in North Carolina were found contaminated with TCE and PCE. Point source. Marines were found with leukemia, Aplastic Anemia, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, Liver cancer, and Parkinson's disease. A ton of effort has been put in to make sure the base is clear of any water and water storage systems for tools that are contaminated.</div>]]></description>

This water was filled with heavy metals and pollutants that contaminated the creek and flowed into the Animas river. The spill did not have a long term impact put communities and farms along the river were instructed not to use the contaminated water</div>]]></description>

Over many years it all began to bubble up into backyards and cellars. Families had to sell their houses to the federal government and evacuate.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Contaminated water was discharged and leaked into unlined pools. This leaked into the aquifer serving resident the water they needed. The leak lasted from 1952-1972. Chromium-6 was found in the water which is known to cause damage to multiple organs and cause different types of cancer and can also alter human DNA after long exposure of this.</div>]]></description>

This killed off almost all the life living in the area at the tine due to the sediments cloning the gills and basically suffocating the fish and marine life.</div>]]></description>
