- Determinism and free will can be argued in court and be held accountable for defendants actions.
- Individual explanations can be used in rare case studies to make new discoveries and/or to find cures
- Reductionism is the practise of describing complex phenomenon using simple ideas which provides the sufficient explanations.

Most of these topics go hand in hand together, despite being debated for, and they have to do with everyday lives. For example nature and nurture go hand in hand, as well as mentioning things like genetic traits and genes. They go hand in hand because in order to develop that genetic trait you may already have, you need to be surrounded in a particular environment, whether that changing your hair colour or becoming better with perfect pitch.

Determinism doesn't include holding someone accountable which is important that people are held accountable in cases of society and legal system. Free will opposes that and does hold people accountable, like when someone has done a crime and needs to pay for their consequences.

I learned that there is no right answer with the debates and they both have their pros and cons for example with with thee nature vs nurture nature is about how you are born the genetic information and nurture is how the things around changing when you grow up this shows how if you don't have both nature and nurture you would almost be machine.

1) Nature vs Nurture is a debate about using the data that comes from the traits we are born with and how behaviour may be affected by the environment

2) There are two types of determinism:
- Soft determinism: These are outside forces that could affect you behaviour
- Hard determinism: These are also outside forces that affect your behaviour but they affect your behaviour to an extent

3) In individual explanations, the research on an individual cannot be generalised because it's research that's conducted on an individual

1.) i learned that most of the stuff isn't either black or white, you have to find a balance. For example, in nature vs nurture, both are true and are respectable, but we must find a balance.
2.) I also learned that determinism cannot be objectively proven, it's not physical or anything. It's an idea. But it can be true in whatever situation. It can even be true WITH free will. E.g you make a choice (free will) but maybe you were meant to make that choice all along (determinism).
3.) I also learned that holism is also used outside of psychology, for example, it can be very spiritual. Looking, caring for an individual as a whole.

With the determinism or free will debate, the concept of being able to hold people accountable with free will and how the legal system is built on the assumption of it.

I'd never heard of the reductionism or holism debate before so I learnt the two different ideas. So Reductionism is the idea that to explain a complex problem you need to break it down however, with Holism, it's based around the idea that some things are too complex to break down.

With the individual vs situational debate, I learnt the different ways feelings can be explained so if your angry then one way to look at is if you have inherited anger issues wheras the other factor would be something occuring such as an argument etc. Overall how you can't just look at one side and use that solely.

1) Perfect pitch runs in families however possessing the gene alone isn’t enough to develop the ability, practice is needed.

2) Both nature and nurture affect our behaviour and shape it, you need a combination of both. Example is perfect pitch.
3)Free will - you can hold people accountable for their actions (because their behaviour isn’t constrained by external factors).

- These debates don't generally have a specific conclusion and both arguments end up being paired together (i.e determinism v freewill; to study psych you cant disregard determinism so both need to be taken into account)

- legal systems are generally based on the idea of free will and being accountable for your actions + determinism (in situations were due to a mental illness or disability people are excused more)

-
