Program Goals

The following program goals were agreed with Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, namely, the QI training should:

1. enhance academics’ understanding of the foundations of English as the Medium of Instruction in academic lecture delivery

2. extend academics’ understanding of student-centred and active learning approaches for teaching content in English

3. demonstrate strategies to support learners with differing levels of English to study academic courses in English 

4. include a focus on AI to support PowerPoint slide design

The 26 hours of training includes:

• pre-course reading and/or orientation tasks (1 hour)

• live, interactive workshops (16 hours)

• self-paced reflection tasks and micro lecture preparation uploaded to Padlet (9 hours)

Program Outcomes

By the end of the program, participants will have:

• planned and delivered a micro-lecture to a group of peers, presenting their ideas to apply lecture strategies and active learning in their classrooms

• created a digital portfolio that showcases best practice approaches to EMI

• actively participated* in at least 80% of the course sessions

Please note: 80% attendance is the minimum course participation requirement for QI certification.

We will often ask you to join activities as a 'student.'

You will need:

• A laptop/desktop computer (NOT a tablet)

• a webcam (for video)

• headphones (for audio)

• Notebook paper

• Pens or pencils

• Water and snacks

• Day 1 Google Meet link (email)

To maximise your success, try to:

• let your colleagues know you're taking a training course, the hours and times you'll be studying

• keep in touch with your trainer by email if you will be late/absent

• Remember - active participation is required for certification, including webcams on (at least 80%) and contributing to class discussions and Padlet posts. We do not provide lecture recordings. These are live, interactive workshops 😊
