I learned that bringing paper is crucial! If I see something amazing, I need to write it down or I will forget about it! Also, going into a classroom with a focus is important. It is easy to get overwhelmed with everything going on, so having something to look for/focus on makes the visit worthwhile!

I learned that agendas, even if they looked differently from mine, were consistently being used. I think this is a strong support for students when they transition from one class to another and one grade to another.

I learned that taking a few minutes to do something fun with kids that is not strictly academic is not necessarily a waste of time! I plan on working some things in...like 5-10 minutes.

I was reminded how effective a small 90 second or 2 minute skills based practice can be. I enjoyed the pace of giving students a burst of time to practice a skill or review content and then return to a whole class discussion as a layered and repeated routine.

I found that listening was easier to help me focus that to watch. During that exercise, I produced more note catching notes if I just listened. In addition, we all still fall victim to the occasional "Ferris Bueller" moments. Both humorous, and acceptable.

I learned that I don't always have to do the heavy lifting. Have students read the slides of the board can be a fantastic interactive piece to classroom routines. Also broad questions can keep students involved in a lesson more than questions with direct answers.
