Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weakness well, and have a positive view of yourself. You also set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively, and can handle criticism. There are many benefits of self confidence that affects performance and how it makes it better. One benefit of self confidence is that it can make you play better as your confidence levels are higher and therefore have more self belief. An example of this in sport is that if a player has high self confidence, they will tend to perform better.
They will perform better because they may more accurate decisions and take risks. This is a good thing because this would mean that instead of making poor decisions and taking no risks, you would make good decisions and take appropriate risks that would benefit your performance.

Optimal self confidence is being so convinced to achieve goals that himself strived hard to achieve the goal. Every successful athlete must have this kind of confidence to achieve high level of performance. It is also the peak of your confidence in yourself. An example of this in sport is that when a player is at their peak of confidence, they will perform at their peak ability. E.g., Harry Kane taking a penalty and scoring it.

Expectation is something that you set yourself that you expect yourself to complete or achieve in a certain timeframe. Expectations can affect athletes in lots of different ways and can lead performers to react in positive ways however the reaction can also be negative. In sport, if an athlete fails an expectation they may feel less motivated to carry on in their sport or be tempted to take a long break to revaluate what they want to do.
Coaches also have expectations, if a coach has very high expectations the impact might be that if you never perform to his high standards or don't perform well enough consistently then he will be more likely to leave you out.

Self-efficacy as people's beliefs in their capabilities to exercise control over their own functioning and over events that affect their lives. High self-efficacy has been linked with numerous benefits to daily life, such as resilience to adversity and stress, healthy lifestyle habits, improved employees performance, and educational achievement. In sport, if a player has a high level of self-efficacy, they will most likely perform better than someone who has less or no self efficacy.

Application of models to sports confidence

Performance models can be used in sport to roadmap the route to achieving a team's overarching aim, whether that be gold medals or championship trophies. A model is generally constructed with a series of short term, mid term and long term goals surrounded by what is needed to achieve these goals. An example of this in sport is a club like Manchester United setting goals for the times frames they want to achieve things as it helps with being reminded of what they want and need to get in
