For example, in "The Story of an Hour" it took place in a time period where women didn't really have a freedom of owning land and being independent, and because of that in the story, it shows how when she discovered the feeling of having freedom, and how vital it is to the human experience, she didn't want to let that freedom go. Now that is different from today's time, at least in most places in the world. In america we as people have right and freedoms and it is just so normal to us now that we honestly sometimes take it for granite. We as a society used to accept this as normal and that only started to change when people spoke out and protested and did what they had to so they could get people's attention and bring light to this subject. So as we have went on over time the more aware we have become of these things and the more we have done to combat this from happening again because we have realized how bad and unfair that is. The fight for freedom has also began to change. It is now less difficult to express your opinion. In the past people would get killed if they shared their opinion or fought for their freedom. We have developed many things compared to the past, like women's right to vote, no more segregation.
