Tiny veins in the Kidneys called capillaries filter proteins we eat and create waste products. As these things are filtered the useful ones are too big to be passed into the urine therefore go into the blood to be utilized. High levels of blood glucose damage the filters in the kidneys and cause them to filter too much blood. After a long time of doing that the filters become weak and the useful proteins leak into the urine and are lost. Small amounts of protein in the urine is called microalbuminuria and when kidney disease is caught during this early stage there are several treatments you can do to keep it from worsening. When it is caught late this can lead to end-stage renal disease or EDSR. EDSR is when the kidneys fail which is very serious and would result in a kidney transplant or a machine filtering the blood for you.

Cataract is the clouding in the eye lens. The eye lens gets nutrients from aqueous humor which is fluid filling the front of the eye. Aqueous humor provides oxeygen and glucose. When you dont have good control over your glucose levels, sugar levels will rise in the aqueous humorand in the lens. This will cause it to swell and affect vision. The lens also had enzyme that converts glucose into sorbitol. When sorbitol collects in the lens it can affect the natural-occurring protiens. This then causes the lens to become less clear. This is called cataract formation and at the end of this it can make your eyesight apper blurry, yellowish or faded and increasing glare.
