The Mayan culture started in Mesoamerica. The Mayan Civilizations arose in between 1200 and 500 B.C.E.
Their Civilization spread throughout eastern and southern Mexico. Their culture on the other hand became complex. Mayan started building public structures for religious reasons and governmental.
They made hieroglyphic writing which is a system to help them write that uses symbols instead. Class structure was put into a Social Pyramid. It was put into Ruler, to Priests and Nobles,to Merchants and Artisans, to Peasants, and to Slaves. For Mayan Family, the women had to do all the cleaning with the help of her daughter, like clean the corn, work at the grinding stone, and many other jobs. Women and older girls (teenagers) took care of younger kids during the day. Men and boy in the family worked the field but on their break they went to hunt animals.

The religion of the Mayan, was polytheistic. They believed in 160 gods. They honored god with may gifts, such as plants, food, and many other gifts. They believed their gods were so powerful they could destroy and create the world. They created 2 sacred calendars that would tell the days that were unlucky and days that were lucky. The Mayan were very advanced in farming. They created a technique that would burn the crops to plant more, it's called slash-and-burn. They couldn't grow crops very large and would have to be spread out. They mostly grew crops such as maize, beans, and squash. They had challenges, but found out a way to feed their population.

Tenochtitlan used to be an unwanted island, but they soon made adjustments to make it a very unique and wonderful city. Tenochtitlan had a plaza which included the Great Temple, which is a stone pyramid that is 150 ft tall. They divided their society into 5 classes. At first, it's the Ruler who controlled the empire, next are Government Officials, Priests, and Military Leaders, that did very important things that the Ruler ordered them to. Next are Commoners, which they divided themselves into 7 smaller classes. Last two classes were Peasants and Slaves that served the higher people.

Aztec women that lived in Tenochtitlan did not get to choose who they married. Men were mostly married at the age of 20 years old and women were married at the age of 16 years old. The men's family chose who the bride should be and then they would arrange it after the bride's family accepted.

The Aztecs grew their own food or imported other good food from other places to eat. The crops they grew are, red peppers, tomatoes, sage, squash, green beans, sweet potatoes, and avocados. Other food they ate were maize, tortillas, and even porridge. Aztec cities had Markets in each, this is where they bought food and food utensils. The other objects they sold in the markets were green jade and quetzal feathers. Not only was the markets for buying things, it was for listening to important news and other purposes.

Aztecs performed religious practices, like sacrificing animals. They performed these religious practices because they believed in Gods helped human live. They sacrificed animals and humans. Seven thousand people sacrificed themselves each year.

The place the Aztecs arose in was the Valley of Mexico. In the 1250 C.E., the a nomadic band, named the Mexica, which we all call Aztecs now found themselves in the Valley of Mexico. They named it The Aztecs Empire, which the name Aztec came from the Mexica's homeland. They had hard times adjusting in the Valley of Mexico because of the other cities that lived by. One of the cities by, gave them a job as mercenaries, which then they were soldiers.

After their home city Tenochtitlan, and after they defeated the Tepances, they created the Aztec Empire. They made many independent city-states which they had to pay the Aztecs.Because the Aztecs demanded many people, their were many wars and they gained many land and other needed objects. Their empire was based on tribute, they didn't start with colonies, or force people to obey their rules.
