There are basically two types of cells. Prokayotic and Eukaryotic, cells with a real membrane-bound nucleus are Eukaryotic. most cells, including all plants and animals, are eukaryotic, which means they have all of their nuclear material inside a true nucleus, or the control center of the cell.

Prokaryotic cells DO NOT have a membrane-bound nucleus. They have nuclear material floating around easily inside the gel-like cytoplasm but don't have a true nucleus. The simplest cells in existence, bacteria and their relatives, are the only members of this type of cell.
